PHS NHS Prospective Member Updates
SECTION A: EXCITING ELIGIBILITY NEWS
We’ve gotten the official clearance to count you as "solid" on your active memberships in TWO or more school-sponsored organizations SO LONG AS they occurred at **SOME** point during Grades 10 and up, rather than requiring that there be two activities for EACH grade since sophomore year.
YES, this means that if you were not as active in organizations during your sophomore year compared to now, your active membership in at least two (2) PHS-sponsored organizations as either a junior or senior rescues you in that department! Juniors: This also means that, if you haven't yet been an active member of two school-sponsored organizations, you can pick up the pace during senior year!
If you attended a meeting on 11/20 (Thursday), 11/21 (Friday), or 11/24 (Monday), please download/print an updated cover page HERE reflecting this change...OR stop by A212 for a copy! (Note: You must be signed into Google Drive with your PHSD log-in credentials.)
SECTION B: OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE WITH PRESENT MEMBERS
#1: Harvesters - Wednesday, Dec. 10th (6-8 PM)
In addition to having fun for a good cause, you can also knock out TWO (2) of your required twenty (20) application hours and Mrs. Bindel will be happy to sign them off then and there! Students are responsible for their own travel, but if you’d like to follow the caravan down south or hitch a ride with another student, we’ll be meeting in the Student Academic lot shortly after 5pm, and leave no later than 5:15 PM.
Feel free to encourage a friend to sign up with you. ALL prospective members are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity.
#2: TUTORING FOR STUCO CRAMMING SESSIONS
- Wednesday, 12/10 from 2:30-5:30 PM
- Wednesday, 12/17 from 6:00-9:00 PM
If you'd like to volunteer at this event, please email Mrs. Bindel (bindeli AT parkhill.k12.mo.us) with your date preference. Snacks will be provided at the event.
Note: You will need to bring a service verification form to this event and be specific in your exact times served. Students are also welcome to serve a partial shift on 12/10 if they'd like to serve at HARVESTERS, too.
SECTION C: THERE'S STILL TIME TO APPLY!
- be a sixth semester junior or an eighth semester senior;
- have a minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA (weighted);
- have been active in at least two (2) or more school-sponsored clubs, teams, or organizations sometime during grades 10-12;
- have participated in at least three (3) different community service projects during grades 10-12 that total at least twenty (20) hours;
- receive a satisfactory faculty and staff evaluation of character.
If students have missed one of the group meetings, encourage them to swing by Room A212 to schedule an individual meeting (20-25 minutes) to review the application.
