Nature Trail Clean-up November 17 9-11AM

There will be plenty to do for grown-ups and kids alike! Our main goals will be clearing the pathways of fallen leaves and clearing out any plant growth that is obstructing the path or blocking signage along the trail. Please bring any tools that may help us accomplish these goals. Rakes will be the most useful tools. Gardening gloves will be a good idea for everyone as well as weather appropriate clothing and shoes or boots that can get wet or muddy. There will be a brief instructional chat at the start of the morning which will also include tips for being safe on the trail.

Discover Greece!

This year our Art and Literature Fling will focus on Greece! Each week in our announcements we will include a fact about this fascinating culture that stretches back thousands of years and has had such incredible influence on the world. PLEASE SHARE THE WEEKLY FACT WITH THE KIDS! In May, around the time of our Art and Literature Fling, there will be an electronic quiz on the weekly facts sent home for families to complete. All families achieving a perfect score will have their names put in a prize basket raffle to be drawn at the conclusion of the Art and Literature Fling on Wednesday, May 28th (you'll have to be present to win)!

This Week's Fact About Greece: The Acropolis of Athens was a runner-up for the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Acropolis means “high city” in Greek. There are many throughout Greece, but the most famous one is the Acropolis of Athens. Situated high above Athens and surrounded by stone walls, the fortress protected the ancient city from attacks. Important buildings were constructed as a monument to the greatness of Athens. The Parthenon was built as a temple to Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war and for whom the city of Athens was named. Other important buildings included the Temple of Athena Nike and Erechtheion, a temple dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon.
