English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below is a description of each component and what your child will be learning the upcoming week.
Unit 7 Week 2
Theme: Pet Pals
Essential Question: How do you take care of different kinds of pets.
Word Work
This week in Word Work we will...
- discriminate between/ g/ and long /w/ in the beginning of words
- isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds in three-phoneme word
- identify the sound of w and g
- identify the sight words “of” and “they”.
Shared Reading
This week in Shared Reading we will...
- define and identify verbs and use verbs correctly in sentence.
- ask and answer questions about key details and requesting clarification if something is not understood.
- segment sounds in words and writing the corresponding letters to spell words.
- make, confirm and revise predictions.
Grammar/Writing
This week in Grammar/Writing we will...
- identify ways a writer writes to make it easier for a reader to read.
- write sentences so that a reader can easily read our sentences.
- use a checklist and rubric to proofread and edit our sentences.
Math
Unit 5: Geometry
This week in math we will...
- match 3-D (solid) shape faces with 2-D (flat) shapes.
- create 3-D shapes using clay.
- create shapes using other shapes.

Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays will be celebrated once a month in the classroom. Our designated birthday days are listed below. Children will celebrate with extra recess (3:00-3:30). Parents are invited to join us during this time. Please let me know if you will be attending.
