Student & Family Update 11.29.20

Thankful...

This past week while driving into school, my thoughts went to all I'm thankful for throughout this time. I thought about my own family, staff onsite, our small groups of onsite students, as well as our parents, students & teachers that are working multiple hours to support this time through distance learning. This year has been difficult, to say the least. I am not only thankful for our school community, but proud to be a part of it. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! ~Cherae Almanza

School Counseling Support

We realize that many of your students are having struggles in relation to this pandemic, learning online, missing social connections, as well as missing out on important activities. Below are some COVID Mental Health Tips that you may find useful. Please share these with our child if you feel it may be helpful. You may always reach out to me as well. I am available each day to do google meets with students and/or parents. ~Keli Niegemann, Counselor

Inclement Weather/Power Outages (More Information/Clarification)

A question has come up regarding inclement weather and extended power outages that will not allow students to continue on work online. If power outages are widespread and last more than a day, the district may elect to cancel school completely rather than have the day be carried out through distance learning. If this were to occur, we’d have to make up these days as we do with a traditional snow day and extended time would be given for current assignments.

Even if Google Meets are not able to happen because of a power outage, the day will still count as a school day as long as students have assignments available and weekly drop dates and due dates will continue. During distance learning, we will count school days because work is available for students.

If the length of the power outage lasts multiple days in a small area, we ask that students contact their teacher &/or the school so we can excuse the attendance to allow more time to complete work. This would be an excused absence for students in that small area only and the remaining students would continue to attend.

Can my student access work offline?

Setting up your chromebook to be able to complete assignments offline is possible. This might be helpful if you have limited internet access, traveling without internet access, or inclement weather situations.

Linked below are both written directions as well as a short video to make this possible. Please reach out if you have any questions.
