Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update

Dear Farley Families,

Special thanks this week goes to all the pediatricians and medical providers of our students who work with our staff to help all kids get what they need. You may not know this, but each week, I would say I speak to at least 1-2 providers and our adjustment counselors confer with many more. With caregiver permission in the form of a release of information, Farley staff can connect with doctors, dentists, therapists, etc. to ensure we are all working to support the many needs that arise during a school year. This year, I have had the privilege of talking with and learning from so many professionals.

Officer Chad asked that each principal share with the community a unique opportunity being offered by the Hudson Police Department. The HPD is excited to announce that they will be hosting a Citizen’s Police Academy (for adults) beginning March 7, 2023. The objective of the Citizens Police Academy program is to allow citizens to learn about and observe first-hand the workings of their town's police department and get an inside look at law enforcement. Participants will be instructed by members of the department in a variety of subjects. These subjects will be taught in various settings and will include hands-on experience. The key to the success of this program is the enthusiasm and participation that the citizens bring to our Citizens Police Academy. Topics of discussion and training will include administrative operations, patrol operations, detective bureau and criminal investigations, criminal and constitutional law, courtroom procedures, communications center, motor vehicle law, use of force, special ops, and community outreach.

The Citizen Police Academy will be held at the Hudson Police Department once a week for ten (10) weeks. Sessions run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. Full attendance at each class is required for a graduation certificate. In order to attend the academy participants must be at least 21 years of age prior to the start date, be a Hudson resident, or work in Hudson, have no prior felony convictions, and no misdemeanor arrests within 2 years of application. A full background check will be completed on all applicants. There is no fee to attend and a polo-style uniform shirt will be provided. The application can be found using the link below. First class begins on Tuesday March 7, 2023. Completed applications must be emailed to Lt. Tom Crippen at tcrippen@townofhudson.org. If you have any questions, Lt. Crippen can be reached via email or by phone at 978-562-7122, ext. 224.

Lastly, as some of you may have noticed, the parking lots at Farley and Quinn were not plowed this morning. Mr. Gaglione (principal at Quinn) and I contacted Dr. Rodrigues and the head of Buildings and Grounds right away to let them know. Hopefully, this won't happen again. Sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused. While snow can be a hassle, take a minute to look at the cute picture below of Farley students trying to catch snowflakes after getting off the bus. The picture is so joyful!

Popcorn & Pajamas is a Virtual Read Aloud where students have the opportunity to listen to books read aloud by Farley teachers from the comfort of their homes, via Google Meet! Families need to register this week by clicking this link. Next week, popcorn and a ticket with instructions will be sent home just before the event.

Pajamas are optional, but students should have a quiet place to listen to the story! We can send home the students' school device for the night of the event if you do not have one with a camera that they can use.

As mentioned last week, third grader Ben Millette has teamed up with fellow students to transform our Fox Curiosity Cabinet into a Legendary Lego Display Case. Ben invited all Farley students to bring in their own (small) Lego creations to share. Here some of the newest additions! Sorry that is hard to see the names...you will have to take a look when you visit us in person!

The 2023 Yearbook Committee is collecting pictures from the Class of '23 (all 4th Graders). We would love it if you had any pictures of these kiddos throughout their years at Farley. We are hoping to collect pictures of kids during special events such as field trips, Fun Run, Valentine's Day Dance, Ice Cream Social, etc. We are looking for pics of the current 4th graders from when they were in K through 4th grade.

If you have any pictures that you would like to submit, please send them to farleyyearbook@gmail.com. We ask that you try to please label the pictures with the year and event.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! Thank you all so much!

In an effort to continue to share the amazing ways our students are "Explaining Their Brains" (Farley's Instructional Focus this year), staff will be sending out postcards each month. Be on the lookout in the old-fashioned snail mail.
