Activity Updates - 7th & 8th Grade Boys Basketball
Dear Parents and Boys Basketball Players,
Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, and Sullivan are excited to announce that competition against one another in athletics is set to resume. Up to this point, all competitions have either been inner-district or ran as intramurals due to the coronavirus pandemic. This small step towards normalcy will hopefully be refreshing and successful.
In discussions moving forward with the season, your middle school AD’s have been working hard in meetings to determine how to proceed with the season. The most difficult aspect of preparing for the season is that each district and school has specific local and/or statewide rules and regulations in place concerning athletics. To make the season run as smoothly as possible, all FM area schools have agreed upon certain conditions that must have in place moving forward. Though not everyone may necessarily support and accept these conditions, for our season to occur, they must strictly be followed. If these conditions aren’t followed, your child will not be able participate in games.
FPS Boys Basketball Guidelines:
Fargo Public Schools will operate at approximately 75% capacity for competitions and performances at a majority of District facilities. Some event venues will have reduced capacity. When going to Horizon Middle School you will only be allowed 2 spectators per athlete.
Fargo Public Schools welcome students, staff, families, and fans that will follow these guidelines and support FPS in preventing the spread of COVID-19. All spectators attending events must:
Wear a mask that covers both the nose and mouth
Social distance from other individuals outside of their family or pod whenever possible
Practice good hand hygiene
Avoid gathering before, during, or after an event
All players and spectators will be required to be masked at all times (unless players are drinking water). This includes on the basketball floor, on the bench, in the stands, and to and from school on a bus.
Spectators will be expected to be 6ft apart within the stands.
Games are usually scheduled back-to-back and last about 45 minutes. If there is a game occurring in the gym that you are going to be playing in, all players, coaches and fans must wait until that game is over and everyone in the gym has left before entering.
We know that the system we have set up isn’t perfect and that there will be some not happy with all of our guidelines. That being said, it does allow our athletes and schools to compete against each other in the safest possible way. We look forward to watching our teams compete!
Thanks,
CBE Middle School Activity Director

INCLEMENT WEATHER SCHOOL CANCELLATION
Prior to the Start of the School Day
In case of inclement weather during the winter months, the Fargo Public Schools will communicate information to parents and guardians regarding any school cancellations or late starts through an automated telephone message system. Also announcements of school delays and/or cancellations and busing schedule changes are given to all the local radio and television stations prior to 7:00 AM for public broadcast.
During the School Day
If inclement weather should occur during the school day, announcements of school cancellation and busing schedule changes will once again be issued to parent and guardians through our automated telephone message, as well be given to all the local media. Parents/guardians should listen for these periodic announcements on radio and television stations on bad weather days, and be prepared or make arrangements to pick up their students at the school or bus drop-off points at the announced times.
Two Hour Late Start
In the event of a late start, the buses will operate two hours late. Students will arrive between 10:00 and 10:15. They should proceed to their Period 3 class, and then follow their normal schedule.
