RHCSD Trade Fair
Information for 7th Grade / 8th Grade Students
You are invited!
On April 26th, you will go to Red Hook High School Gymnasium from 8:40 until 9:25 for a Trade Fair!
What is a Trade Fair?
A Trade Fair is a chance for you to learn more about careers that you might want to go into in the future. The trades are an important part of our society. They do not require extensive college, but they do require you to learn specific and important skills. An example of a trade is something like a construction worker, a welder, an electrician, and so much more. At the Trade Fair, you will get a chance to talk to professionals and ask them questions about their jobs.
What Kinds Of Questions Should You Ask Presenters?
Here's an example of some of the questions that you might ask a presenter at the Trade Fair:
- Did you always know that you wanted to go into this field?
- Did someone inspire you to go into this line of work?
- Did you have a different career before this one?
- Is your job different every day, or the same every day?
- What kind of training did you get for your job?
- What is your favorite part of your job?
- What is your least favorite part of the job?
- What skills are important for me to learn if I want to go into your line of work?
- Why do you think the trades are so important?

What Are The Raffle Tickets For?
If you ask a presenter a great question, you will get a raffle ticket. Depending on how many presenters you talk to, you may end up with more than one raffle ticket. You will use these raffle tickets to vote for a prize that you hope to get.
Use Your Time Wisely
Since you'll be leaving the Trade Fair exactly at 9:25, you'll need to have already filled out your ticket(s) and voted for the prize you want by then. It might be a good idea to have a pen on you so you can complete your tickets as you receive them. Keep your eyes on the clock too. Forty-five minutes will go by quickly!
Behavior Expectations
Above everything, you need to be kind and considerate to our presenters and staff / students working at the Trade Fair. Many of our trades people have taken a half day off from work, or even the whole day off from work, to come represent their job. You can show everyone appreciation and respect by: using your best manners, walking calmly, not interrupting, asking good questions, saying thank you for coming, etc.
See You At The Trade Fair!
