Each unit has a planning binder equipped with ML plans and the end of unit assessment.
Lessons for the week are read on Sundays and each component of the ML is written on a sticky note. The binder is referred to the morning of and is left open during the mini lesson.
Mrs. Muhammad preps for the next day’s small groups prior to leaving. All materials are in place.

AVID Strategy of The Month: Socratic Seminar
Socratic seminars are named for their embodiment of Socrates’ belief in the power of asking questions, prize inquiry over information and discussion over debate.
The Socratic seminar is a formal discussion, based on a text, in which the leader asks open-ended questions. Within the context of the discussion, students listen closely to the comments of others, thinking critically for themselves, and articulate their own thoughts and their responses to the thoughts of others. They learn to work cooperatively and to question intelligently and civilly.
Happy Discussing!
