Safer, Smarter Kids Instruction will Begin this Month

South Carolina Legislature, known as Erin’s Law, requires school districts to extend mandated educational programs regarding personal safety, abuse education, and prevention curriculum to students from Pre-K through 12th grade. The goal is to teach children to avoid situations that may lead to abuse and to report any instances of abuse they may have endured.

We will begin this programming in the month of February. These lessons are intended to give students skills in knowing how to stay safe from sexual assault and know how to report any incidents of sexual assault. We encourage parents to discuss the different topics with their children.

Parents are welcome to view the instructional materials at Safer, Smarter Kids. https://safersmarterkids.org/.

During the past 12 months, we have been faced with unprecedented changes to our way of life. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every fiber of our daily routine. All sessions are free and will be hosted by Dr. James Lee with Global Health Psychiatry, LLC. Please use the link in the flyer to register. A ZOOM link will be emailed to you, so you can join the discussion.

COVID-19 Communication

Please contact an administrator or the school nurse (Rhonda Cranford, RN, direct line:803-981-1564) if your student tests positive for Covid-19 or is in close contact with a person who has tested positive.

Communication this school year is key in the prevention and spread of the Covid-19 virus.

What does it mean to be a close contact of someone with COVID-19?

Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of someone who tested positive for COVID-19 for at least several minutes (usually about 15 minutes). The virus is spread primarily from person to person through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth or nose. That is why it is so important to wash your hands often and clean frequently touched surfaces at least daily.
