Important Update COVID-19 3.12.20 EVENING MESSAGE
Important HCSD Update on COVID-19 3.12.20
Dear Parents,
I started my day very early in the morning, hopeful that we found a solution for our students, families, and staff in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. The hope was that we could find some common ground in keeping our schools open for all students who wanted to attend while supporting families who wanted to keep their children home. This scenario is no longer viable. Our collective thinking as a county has evolved to now recommend that “remote learning” for all students is our best path forward during this unprecedented time.
With the support of the Board of Trustees, HCSD will transition to a remote learning model of instruction for all students beginning next week. Staff will use Monday, March 16th and Tuesday, March 17th to plan for remote instruction. Remote instruction will begin on Wednesday, March 18th and will continue at least through Friday, March 27th and will then be re-evaluated. During this time schools will not be open with the exception of some classrooms that may be used to support students receiving unique or specialized services. Students will come to school tomorrow, Friday, March 13th and then stay at home and not come to school from Monday, March 16th through Friday, March 27th. Teachers have been planning for this event and will use next Monday and Tuesday to refine lessons for students. Teachers will contact students at home by Wednesday, March 18, for the start of remote instruction.
As a district, we are confident that we can continue to offer a quality educational program for our students—even if it is different from our normal approach. While it is not possible to match the typical learning conditions in our classrooms, our teachers and staff are dedicated to delivering an excellent program to our students. Teachers will be reaching out to their classes directly defining next steps and communicating protocols. Site leaders will also be communicating directly to parents at their schools.
I thank you for your continued understanding and flexibility. Please be on the lookout for more information over the next couple of days and please continue to be patient with us as we transition to remote learning. Should you have any questions, please e-mail news@hcsdk8.org We move forward with the best interests of all our students, their families, and the greater community at heart.
With gratitude,
Louann
