Soaring Over MDE

HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND
Hope you have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend!
Looking forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday, 9/6. It is forecasted to be a VERY hot day. Please plan accordingly. We will be making adjustments to our afternoon recess. These will be moved inside into the air conditioning.
Reminder from Newsletter #1
- Footwear. Please do not send your child to school in shoes with high stacked soles/heels, open-toed shoes, flip-flops, sandals, or shoes with wheels. (MDUSD BP/AR 5132.)
- Toys on campus. While I certainly understand the need and want to bring toys to show friends at school, this also creates quite a distraction. Unless there is a preapproval with the classroom teacher (ie; star student, sharing day, or fidget approval) toys need to be left at home. This will also help prevent items from being broken, lost, stolen, etc.
- Phones and Smart Watches: Please remember that your child is in school learning. Texting them or sending a message to their watch disrupts the class and their learning environment. This quickly becomes the focus for the student and those around them. If you need a message given to your child, please call the office. We will get the message to them in a timely manner. If you are able to set parameters, please do so during our school hours.
Parent Volunteers Needed (For many different things!)
Please fill out this FORM if you are interested in volunteering for one (or more) of the roles needed this year:
Site Council: The School Site Council (SSC) is a school community’s representative body, made up of school staff and parents/community members. The primary responsibility of the SSC is to participate in the development and monitoring of the Single Plan for Student Achievement, evaluate the effectiveness of programs, monitor the use of supplemental funding available to the school site, seek input from school advisory committees, and reaffirm or revise school goals. Ayers is currently seeking two parent/community nominees with the goal of providing a choice of candidates who represent the cultural, racial, and linguistic diversity of our community.
Parent Patrol: This is a position that has been around for many years. We are bringing it back this year! This position is not in-charge of any part of the school. However, assisting to keep our site and our students safe. We will have a need for 4-before and after school parents and 2-parents through-out the day. Before and After school: helping students continue to be safe getting to their cars, up and down the back hill, etc. During the school day: patrolling the halls, assisting the office with deliveries and locating students. These are all volunteer positions. You must be cleared to be a volunteer in our district.
Parent Advisory Committee: Each site is required to have a representative on the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC.). This advisory group meets with the Superintendent monthly and provides
feedback to the District on how we can better support students and families. Representatives can be members from your School Site Council (SSC), ELAC, PTA, PFC or any other site advisory group.
Fill the Fridge Fridays in September
Our first Fill The Fridge Friday was a HUGE success! Our staff loved it and are SO appreciative! If you missed out on filling the fridge this week...don't worry, there are a few more spots left for future Fridays.
You can drop off donations in the school office all items donated will go directly to our fabulous school staff.
Specific items we are asking for:
Beverages: Diet Coke, Gatorade, Sparkling Water in various flavors, Keurig pods
Non-Perishable Snacks: Chips (individual size), Cookies, Chocolate, Fruit Snacks, Granola Bars, etc.
If your student is absent...
Please ONLY contact our Attendance Secretary, Misty Kirk-Nimr at kirknimrm@mdusd.org OR call 925-672-4840 x84502. Parent Square messages are not making it to Misty. If you have questions regarding returning to school after your child has been sick, please contact Misty as welll. Telling your child's teacher is not enough. Misty or our office staff must speak to a parent or guardian .
When signing out your child
Please make sure when you sign your child out (when taking them out early) to include the reason you told the office. We have quite a few people who write different reasons in our log.
Picture Day is coming
Students will be taking photos with their classes. Times will be through-out the day.
