Dear Parents / Guardians:
The students at Tom Lea Elementary School will be participating in the Accelerated Reading (AR) program. The programs consists of students reading books from the library that are coded as an AR book, and then will take a short comprehension quiz on the computer. Students are responsible for taking the independent quiz and are allowed to be taken at home.
As students complete AR quizzes, they may earn points based upon the number of questions answered correctly. The Tom Lea teachers will set the students’ goals and the student must meet based on the four nine weeks. In addition, students must meet the 85% average goal.
Student are able to take their AR test daily from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at the following link: https://star360.episd.org/
The students will enter their username and password.
Want your child to read…….
The Library will offer curbside pickup for students to check out books to read. You may look at the books in our catalog and then email the books that you would like to checkout for your child’s reading pleasure. Then send me an email of the books that you would like. If you are not sure of what to select, then let me know your child’s grade level and reading interest or subject. I will collect the books and check them out to your child. I will return your email with a schedule day and time for you to pick them up. I will then provide curbside pickup of our books to your vehicle. Please look at the Tom Lea online library catalog at the following link: https://elpaso.tlcdelivers.com/?config=178#section=home

Nurse News
Tom Lea Brave bulls and parents,
As you all are completing your virtual learning, EPISD School Nurses are also learning how our role is going to change and planning for the school’s re-opening. In the next week, I will be working on a Schoology page that you all will have access to with short videos on mask wearing, PPE, and new policies and procedures in sending students to the nurse’s office and home from school. My goal is to make the transition from face to face instruction smooth and making sure our community knows what to expect when we return to the campus. For now, I want you all to know that if you are planning to have your child return for face to face instruction and they will be needing medication during the school day I will need the medication administration *forms turned in to me, completed by the child’s doctor, along with a current pharmacy labeled, medication. I have attached the most commonly used medication and allergy forms for your convenience. If your child has a medication that was not picked up at the end of the school year and it is not expired (with current pharmacy label), you may have the child’s doctor complete the forms and email the form to me at algutier@episd.org. I will be contacting those parents with expired medications and/or out of date pharmacy labels. If you have any further questions, please contact me via email or my google voice number, (575) 322-2861.
For now, check out my interactive google slide for resources and quick links!

Hello Parents!
My name is Jennifer Baca and I am the Parent Engagement Liaison (PEL). I am an Army veteran, Army spouse and have two children who attend Tom Lea. We moved to El Paso in June of 2019 and I began substitute teaching for EPISD in the fall, so some of your kiddos may know me as "Coach Baca". I started the PEL position at Tom Lea in January of 2020 and have enjoyed getting to know many of you.
My main goal is to keep families informed in school activities and included in all of our events. I am here to help build an amazing partnership between teachers, staff and families. Last year we were able to hold numerous fun and engaging workshops in person at the school. This year, we are still striving to provide that same connection virtually through parent workshops, parent/child day, art shows, etc. You will find all our events listed on class Dojo, the newsletter and on the Tom Lea Webpage.
The link below is a Parent and Family Engagement newsletter. There are many great articles on how to talk to your child's teacher, internet and homeschooling tips and much more. Please check it out! https://www.esc16.net/page/title1swi.3_newsletter%20-%20Copy
I look forward to when I can see all of you in person again! Please reach out to me if you need any assistance.
