DP Instructional Update
Divine Providence School Week of April 6
Spring Break has begun! Have a beautiful and safe Easter to all!
We got this!
Dear DP families,
I hope you and your family are doing well at this time. Recently, the Archdiocese of Chicago sent a letter that or stay at home order will sty in effect until April 30, 2020. During this time, our alternative learning will continue to provide high-quality academic work for your child.
We understand that these days are very stressful for everyone. Some parents need to report to work and come home to children that have questions about their work for the day. Some teachers are posting sites for students to go to which requires technology that your child may or may not always have access to. Please remember that if you are encountering any issues with alternative learning, we want to help. Please communicate this to your child's teacher. Together we will create the best plan to work with your family. Student work done during this time will be included in their final grade for this trimester.
April 10th is Good Friday and will be the start of our Spring break. Thursday would have been an early dismissal, so students may not receive the workload as a usual day. There will be no alternative learning provided during the Spring break. We will, however, continue to offer opportunities for your child and family to visit sites. Maybe consider taking a virtual trip to a museum!
When we return, we will be adding an afternoon during the week for teachers to conference together and do more planning. These days will offer students a time to catch up on work that they may not have had the time to complete. More information regarding this will be sent for the April 20th Instructional Update.
We hope to be back with our students in May. We never thought we when decided to have alternative learning in the Fall that it would last as long as it has. We greatly appreciate your partnership during this time. We will continue to keep you updated through the Instructional Update each week, so please check back often. While talking with friends, someone said that our life is a new normal these days. We are blessed to have the opportunity to recreate our normal life once it resumes. I continue to pray for all of our families during this time. Please keep us in your prayers as well.
Peace,
Mrs. LeTourneau
Our school cheer (your child should know this!)-

Letter from Dr. Rigg 3/31/2020
Dear Catholic School Parents and Guardians, You may have heard that Gov. Pritzker has announced the extension of the statewide school closure through April 30, 2020. As you know, the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Chicago have been temporarily closed as a result of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. We are not yet certain when our schools will reopen. However, as we would not reopen our schools before the end of the Governor’s statewide school closure order, you should plan on our school buildings remaining closed until at least April 30. Yours in Christ, Jim Rigg, Ph.D.
In the meantime, our Catholic educators continue to work hard to implement e-learning and alternative learning for our students. I am extremely grateful for the efforts of our students and families to continue the learning process while our buildings are closed. I have been very impressed by the quality of e-learning/alternative learning happening, and know that our dedicated Catholic educators will continue to provide support. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to view the Cardinal’s message to Catholic school students and families.
In addition, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has announced that the state is suspending the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), the standardized test for public schools in Illinois, this school year. Catholic school students receiving tax credit scholarships are required to participate in the IAR and will not now need to do so this spring.
Please be aware that the Office of Catholic Schools has decided to suspend the administration of the ACT Aspire assessment, the standardized test for our Catholic elementary schools, for the 2019/20 school year.
We do hope to return to regular classes once it has been deemed safe to do so. The archdiocese is in frequent contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, local and state health departments, and other agencies, and will make a decision about reopening our schools after the statewide school closure order is lifted. I sincerely appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this challenging time. May God bless the efforts of our health care workers and keep all of our Catholic school families healthy and safe.
