School Meals in During Fall 2020 Online Learning
While school will occur online until at least November 13th the Beaverton School District will have grab and go meals available curbside at 38 school sites. Unlike how meals were distributed in the Spring during the Emergency Closure, our meal operations will be governed by the USDA National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Programs regulations. Meals will be available for BSD enrolled students only and student accounts will be charged based on eligibility (Free/Reduced, Paid). Students are not required to be present to pick up meals, but parents or guardians will be asked to provide student names and ID numbers to receive meals. Additional information may be requested to verify a child as a BSD enrolled student.
Families or guardians may pick up meals every Tuesday and Thursday from 11am – 12:00pm at curbside locations (service times may be expanded to meet specific site needs, earlier start or later finish, on a site by site basis). Tuesday pickups will include 2 days of meals and Thursday pickups will include 3 days of meals. Breakfast and Lunch will be packaged together, as they were in the Spring. Families with children attending multiple schools may pick up meals at one curbside location. Student accounts will be charged based on eligibility (Free/Reduced, Paid) and school enrollment location (Elementary, Middle, etc.). Payments are encouraged to be made online via www.schoolcafe.com. Cash & check payments will only be accepted curbside in a sealed envelope labeled with the student’s name and ID number.
Nutrition Services is working with the Transportation Department on plans to resume bus stops in order to reach students who may be unable to come to school sites to pick up meals. Those plans are in development and will be shared once schedules and stops can be finalized. Transportation will also be helping with home deliveries for severe need families who lack necessary resources to access bus stops or school locations.
Oregon’s Expanded Income Guidelines (EIG) has been fully funded through the Student Success Act, effective July 1, 2020. This means families can qualify for free meals if their income is between 185-300% above the Federal poverty rates for all BSD enrolled students. Families must fill out a Meal Benefits application to participate in this free program.
