MR. MELA'S MESSAGE
Thank you to our students, staff, and families for another successful week of school. We appreciate your patience as we encounter issues with technology that impact all of us. It's amazing how much we depend on technology in our schools, especially in light of the learning structures we are using.
As we move through these early weeks, it is so important that we are making safe and thoughtful decisions, which can have so much impact on others. We ask that you carefully read the Travel Order below, which outlines travel expectations.
COVID-19 Travel Order
Sudbury Public Schools is strictly adhering to the COVID-19 Travel Order. We would like to remind parents that the travel order pertains to anyone entering Massachusetts from out-of-state and includes MA residents returning from second homes or weekend trips to any state not considered to be lower-risk.
Massachusetts residents are urged to limit any out-of-state travel only to states designated as COVID-19 lower-risk states.
The current list of COVID-19 lower-risk states includes:
Colorado
Connecticut
Maine
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Vermont
Washington
*Rhode Island is currently considered a higher-risk state
If you travel for any reason you must follow the mandated guidelines below unless you meet the exemptions for travel listed below.
Exemptions to travel order:
Transitory travel through a state
Travel for work, school, or medical treatment
Military travel requirement
*Any overnight stay in a state considered higher-risk requires a COVID test and quarantine until test results are known.
Children age 10 and younger are not required to be tested but must follow the quarantine requirement of their parent(s)/guardian(s) until test results are known, or if no testing is done, the end of the 14 day quarantine period.
A negative result from an antigen test must be confirmed by a negative result from an FDA EUA-approved molecular (PCR) SARS-CoV2 test, on a sample obtained 72 hours or less prior to arrival in Massachusetts. Serology tests will not be accepted.
Please inform your school nurse of travel plans to a higher-risk state and provide a copy of the COVID-19 test result before your child(ren) returns to school.
Complete the Massachusetts Travel Form before returning to MA from a higher-risk state. For more info: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-order
Thank you for your help in continuing to keep our community safe.
Enjoy the weekend,
Jeff

PROCEDURE FOR STUDENT DISMISSALS DURING THE DAY
If a student has an appointment during a hybrid remote day or Sudbury Remote, please leave a detailed message on the absentee and tardy line (978-443-1071, press 1) with their departure time, approximate time that the student will be returning to remote learning, as well as the reason for dismissal.
For students who are "in-house" who have appointments during the day, please continue to have them bring a note to the front office first thing in the morning. The note should include time of departure and reason. Parents must come into the front office to sign the student out. The student can sign themselves back in when they return.
A MESSAGE FROM THE ECMS HEALTH OFFICE
Symptoms of Illness & Return to School Guidelines
Any illness must be considered carefully during a pandemic in order to prevent the spread of disease. If your child has any one of the symptoms from Group A they will be dismissed home and asked to quarantine while awaiting results of COVID-19 testing. If no testing is done, they must self-isolate for 10 days. If your child has 2 or more symptoms from Group B the same procedure applies.
Please keep your child home if they are not feeling well and follow the same return to school guidelines. Inform the school nurse if your child is ill. Phone: 978-443-1071 x7528 or x7509.
Symptoms of Illness
If your child has symptoms, keep them home, and call your health care provider for evaluation and potential testing for COVID-19. Please ensure that your student meets the criteria below and provide documentation to the school nurse before they return to school. Fax: 978-443-1098 or email lynn_lucier@sudbury.k12.ma.us or katelyn_griffin@sudbury.k12.ma.us
*In the era of COVID-19, there are multiple tests available. However, the PCR is the gold standard and is the preferred test type. When seeking a test for you or your child, please request the PCR test. Results have been coming back within 24-48 hours at most testing sites. Antigen testing has a false negative rate of close to 50% and would need to be confirmed by a PCR before your child can return to school.

Direct Appeal
Thank you to the many families who have already contributed to our 2020–2021 CPO Direct Appeal! Your donations help to provide enrichment activities and fund classroom resources and initiatives NOT covered in the SPS budget.
The Direct Appeal is our only fundraiser this year, and our goal is to get 100% participation! If you have not yet donated, please take a moment to donate online. Simply click here or make a donation from the AtoZ website/app when you order your directory. We suggest a $75 donation—but no donation is too small—and all are appreciated! Thanks in advance for your contribution!
