IURFC RUGBY & NETBALL NEWSLETTER
Edition 1 6th April 2019
WELCOME TO THE 2019 RUGBY/NETBALL SEASON OF IURFC
Where did the off season go!!!
We are now back into the thick of things with Rugby’s first Competition game last week against Clifton and 4 of our Netball Teams playing in a pre-season tournament in Hawera this Saturday.
The new committee has been busy over the off season to ensure that a lot of the learnings from the Review last year can be implemented and, with a larger committee elected at the last AGM, we hope that the load can be eased for all, but this will take time for all to learn the ropes and new technology as they take up different areas within the Club with a numbers of sub-committees formed.
The Club has a new Treasurer as at the AGM in Megan Hale after the resignation of Sarah McIntyre due to a new baby to their family. We have also just secured a new Secretary in Rob Wheeler with the resignation of Maree at the end of last year. Maree has and will continue to work with both Megan and Rob to ensure a smooth transition,
We also have a number of new committee members in Emma Hunt, Colin Shotter, Bernard O’Sullivan, Dane Ladbrook, Owen Burgess, Ian Marshall, Duncan Corlett, adding to the past committee of Gavin Midgley (Chairperson), Wayne Dombroski (Club Captain), Kerry
Austin, Leah Chilcott (Netball), Philip and Simon Marsh and Kane Anderson, These members are all in sub-committees, some with more than one role, taking on various tasks around the club, so please be patient as they learn the roles and make yourself known to them.
Background Happenings
Honors Board:
Over the off season we have been working on updating our Honors Board and are now ready to update within the next few weeks with this Data on uploaded to our Website.
Website:
A New Website has been created which is now live and more interactive. A Huge Thank You to Aaron Zame of A-Z Websites for working alongside us with this project. We hope this will become the hub for the Club with it being updated regularly and have our facebook page attached for viewing and our newsletters/programs/games will be uploaded for all.
Search up Inglewood Rugby.co.nz and have a look around.
We hope to have player profiles loaded shortly also.
Sponsors:
We have a number of New Sponsors and have retained a large number of last year’s sponsors and we Thank them all for their support of the Club.
Senior Rugby
We have a new look coaching and management for all teams this year and along with Committee members they have been working hard in the off season with retaining existing players and recruitment of new players to the club. We are still struggling with player numbers this year and have made the decision to withdraw the Snr 3rd Rugby team for the season. On the positive side we have managed to put together a Snr B (Div 1) team this year. This team is made up of last year's Snr 3rd players as well as a few returning players.
This season we have a Premier, Senior B (Div 1) and a Colts team. More about Teams in the next newsletter.
Netball News
Netball:
Netball is once again looking strong with teams being Premier 1 and 2, Snr A, B and C and 2 Social competitions, with also new look Coaches and Management teams. More reports around Netball in the next newsletter.
Junior Rugby News
Once again, the Junior Rugby season has great numbers with 173 children registered to play rugby on Saturday mornings. Also, this season we are involved in the Friday nights girl’s rugby competition in which we have 32 girls involved with 13 of these girls only playing Friday nights. This gives us a total of 186 children registered to play rugby for the season.
This season we have introduced warm up hoodies for all our teams down to our U8 grade which will be great to see being worn around town along with all the children wearing their warm up tees which have had a bit of an upgrade this season as well.
There are some exciting fixtures coming up before the season kicks off on the 3/4 May. We have 2 Manly teams from Australia visiting for games to be played under lights on the 18th April (first game kicks off 5.30). Also, on the 27th April in Stratford we will be playing the inaugural Gyde Shield exchange against Stratford for all junior rugby teams. This year also sees our U11, U13 Restricted & U13 Open teams travelling to Upper Hutt for the annual exchange in July. If you see the kids out fundraising, we would love to see you help where possible.
Thanks to all our amazing sponsors and calf rearer’s we have this year, with the help of them all we have been able to provide the children with amazing gear and equipment. So if you are looking for something to do on a Friday night or Saturday morning come along and support the future stars of our club.

Over the last few seasons we have been using a program called Sporty which all Codes use for registrations. This has always been a challenge as now everything is electronic via emails with no paper forms anymore.
Big ups to the Netball with 100% registrations and 98% sub payments received. The challenge for Rugby is to do the same by next week please, with only 40% sub payments having been received so far and as they were due 30th March these are now Overdue.
We have also introduced a new payment system this season that connects to Sporty called Sportspay. We have encountered teething problems with Players not choosing to pay on registration causing a lot of Administration hours to sort this out. The options for payment are Direct Debit and Credit Card facility.
Memberships
We have been updating our database to ensure we can contact members when required and to send communications to all either via email or post. If you have an email address and would like to receive our newsletters via this means you can register as a Member via the website under Register Online and click on Membership or you could email secretary@inglewoodrugby.co.nz to let us know. We will also be around the Club at Home games where you can register as either a $20 Member giving you ticket and emails or a $70 membership giving you a ground pass and complimentary drink at home games. If you don’t wish to receive a newsletter via email we can post these also or they will be on our Website.
Bereavements
It is with much sadness that as a club and community we acknowledge the passing of Troy Fowell and Corey “The Brave” Keeling and Send our Heartfelt Sympathy and Thoughts to the Fowell & Keeling Families at this Sad Time.
Final Word
I think that’s all for this newsletter with so many things happening over the off season and preparing for the season ahead I could quite possibly have missed something, but please be patient for the first few issues as we create and use new technology to help keep everyone informed of Club happenings and events. We hope to have another newsletter out next week and all home games unless required.
