Kindness Posters are due today!

Howdy Parents!

Save the date! Deretchin Rodeo is coming up on Friday, February 21st from 5-8 p.m. Please check your child’s Tuesday folder (2/11/2020) for rodeo & ticket information.

We will have inflatables, rockwall, cakewalk, over 15 raffle baskets, silent auction items, Kona Ice, & much more! Hope to see you there!

If you are coming for lunch or an event and checking into the front office you MUST have a government issued ID or passport. There are NO exceptions. If you are needing to check out your student you must also have your government issued ID or passport. Thank you for understanding that the students safety will always be our first priority.

For the safety of our children, please review the arrival and dismissal procedures below.

All car riders should be dropped off and picked up in the front of the building from the Terramont entrance only.

Bikers A will be released from the last hallway in the front of the building and will need to proceed to the bike path along Terramont.

Bikers B will be released in the back of the school by the bike racks and will need to proceed to the bike path along Merit Oaks.

We encourage all students that are riding their bike home to put on their helmet before leaving the bike area. We encourage all children to proceed home after being dismissed from school.

All bus riders will be released in the back of the school.

For the safety of all students, please refrain from parking in the neighborhoods or at the park and waiting for or dropping off your children.

If you will be entering the school to check your child out, please park in the front parking lot or along Terramont. Please remember to pay attention to fire lanes, as these will be enforced at all times. Consistency on a child’s arrival and dismissal are crucial to the timing and efficiency of the whole campus dismissal. We understand that there may be times when transportation changes are necessary and appreciate how well everyone follows the 2:30 change of transportation rule.

The safety of our students is of the utmost importance. Following guidelines of arrival and dismissal procedures is the perfect way for us to be the example to our children. We appreciate your help and support.

Severe weather dismissal decisions are made each day at 2:45. If it is just a light rain with NO thunder and lightning we will dismiss as normal. If the decision is made to call a severe weather dismissal, we will send this out to you via text message and email at 2:50. The system is generating approximately 2,000 emails/text messages at this time. We appreciate your patience as the emails/texts get to you (this typically takes 1-2 minutes). We encourage you to use the car line or bus transportation for your child. These two forms of transportation are the fastest ways to get your child home on a severe weather day. If you choose to pick your child up from the front office, please know that we will not begin this dismissal process until the car line and the buses have begun at 3:10. You will need to bring your ID with you as we will not dismissal children to parents without an ID. Thank you for understanding that safety is our number one priority at Deretchin Elementary. Be safe and stay dry.

In February, we will be emphasizing our Pillar of Kindness. Students will be earning red “Random Acts of Kindness” tickets in place of our yellow tickets. There will be weekly drawings in classroom and special prizes as well.

Our 5th Grade Student Council and Spring Ambassadors will be sponsoring a Kindness Poster Contest, that will start on Monday, February 3rd.

Posters must be on the large construction paper (12x18) and the theme is “Kindness” (please no posterboard or canvas as we are hoping to frame the winning posters). Paper is available here at school if needed!

Please make sure students put their name, grade level, and home base teacher on the back. Posters can be turned into Becky Stiles, or to home base teacher.

Deadline is Friday, Feb. 28th. 5th grade Student Council will choose a grade level winner for each grade. The winning posters will be framed and hung on our Kindness Wall! Winners will be announced on DNN by Friday, March 6th!

The application has been sent to all CISD High School College and Career Counselors, and has also been posted on our Deretchin website. Any graduating CISD student who has attended Deretchin for any amount of time is eligible. If you have a graduate or know someone who is eligible, please share this information. Dear Parents,

Ride Elementary, which opened in 1983, is located at 4920 West Panther Creek Dr. It currently has 751 active students and a building capacity of approximately 575 to 600 students. The school now requires the use of 12 portable classrooms to accommodate the student population. Lamar Elementary, which opened in 1971, has a current enrollment of 800 students and utilizes 6 portable classrooms. In 2019, the legislature implemented full day Pre-Kindergarten which will also create an additional demand for classroom space on those campuses that have Pre-K programs.

To address these challenges, an Attendance Boundary Committee (ABC) has been established. The committee is composed of parents and principals of elementary and intermediate schools serving the Woodlands and College Park feeder patterns along with CISD administrators. This committee will soon begin the process of developing zoning scenarios for the elementary schools for the primary objective of reducing the crowding at Ride. It is important to the District to obtain the input of the parents and community on these various zoning scenarios. Therefore, the District is providing multiple opportunities for anyone interested to attend the Zoning Information Overview and Community meetings. Each meeting is offered three times for convenience. Much of the information to be presented at the Zoning Information Overview will be available on CISD’s website at https://conroeisd.net/.

Community Presentation

Following Community Forums, the ABC will reconvene to review the input from patrons. Using this input, the committee will develop its recommendation. The committee will present its recommendation to parents and community members at the following Community Presentations:

Following the Community Presentation, the ABC will present its recommendation to the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for the final decision for the attendance boundaries.

Our campus will be utilizing the Anonymous Alerts app designed to allow students, or anyone, inform our campus administration of any safety concern during the 2019-2020 school year. This app will allow any completely anonymous upstander and an administrator to engage in completely anonymous two-way confidential ongoing communication regarding an issue. The app can be downloaded either at the Google Play store for Android or Apple store for iOS.
