Blood Drive

Our next blood drive is on a non-school day, 11/30 1pm-7pm. It is the Monday after Thanksgiving. I hope you can find some time to come out and donate. The drive is being held at the Buckeye Lake Fraternal Order of Eagles (3240 Walnut Rd). If you are interested, let me know a good time and I will set up an appointment for you. Reversing the Trend of Irreversible Actions - Free Webinar

On Friday, November 20th 11:30-1:00 PM, the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics will be hosting a FREE webinar on Teen Suicide Prevention. Participants will learn about the dangers and potential warning signs of suicide and will receive free information on educational resources. Parents and teens directly impacted by teen suicide will also be in attendance to share their stories. The event is open to everyone….parents, teenagers, educators, and anyone interested in learning about ways to help prevent suicide among teens.

Lakewood High School Alumni Panel- goes virtual

Counselors will be meeting with LHS Alumni via Zoom in December to find out about Life After Lakewood. Lucie Arnott (2020), Katie Chittum (2019), Hannah Horsington (2019), Nick Novotny (2017), and Anthony Toskin (2020) will be on the Zoom. Have questions? Submit them to me! I'll ask. vkieffer@laca.org

College Application Blitz 2020

Our friends at Get On Track College and Career Access Center and Newark High School's A Call to College has once again put on the College Application Blitz for the Class of 2021. Seniors from all over Licking County were able to complete their college applications FREE during the first week of November.

Did you forget to place your order for a class ring (10th) or cap and gown (12th)? Fear not! You can still order from Jostens. Senior Cap and Gown order site . Students interested in ordering a class ring can go here.

*OST retakes start December 3rd

Students that will need to retest in one or more of Ohio's State Tests received an email End of Course Testing Retakes last week. These tests include English 1 (does not apply to Class of 2024), English 2, Algebra, Geometry, Biology, American History and Government. Students enrolled in these courses for the first time this year will take these tests at the end of the year. These tests are part of the graduation requirements for your student's class. You can learn more about specific graduation paths here.

Mark your Calendars-- Feb 23rd is the ACT at school for the Class of 2022 and the Work Keys for the Class of 2021.

Class of 2022 will be taking the ACT on paper during the school day for FREE. This is a huge cost savings! Be sure your student is preparing for this assessment, which can be a pathway to graduation.


ACT and WorkKeys prep resources.


Work Keys will be administered to the Class of 2021. WorkKeys is made by ACT. It Measures workplace skills. Successfully completing assessments in Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents can lead to students earning an NCRC (National Career Readiness Certificate).

Sophomores- Interested in Applying to C-TEC for the 21-22 school year?

Plans are being finalized now as to how a virtual Open House will occur... This will include a virtual tour of the building and programs later in December or January. Also an Evening of Exploration in January is still be planned and information about what that looks like will be released soon. The window for the ONLINE Application submission will be after Thanksgiving running until February 5th at www.c-tec.edu/hs


10th graders need to remember that admission to CTEC is competitive and enrolling in (and passing) 9th and 10th grade pre-requisite courses is the best way to present yourself as a strong candidate for admission.

Study Skills Group

There are a lot of students at LHS interested in sharpening their Study Skills. We have have a (virtual) session on Learning Styles and one on Testing Techniques is coming soon. I am posting the content in the Google Classrooms. Check them out with your student!
