WEEK AT A GLANCE: APRIL 20-APRIL 24
GOVERNOR ABBOTT CANCELS SCHOOL
Texas Governor Greg Abbott Friday announced all Texas schools will remain closed for the rest of the 2019-20 school year. LISD will continue with its At-Home Learning plans and will continue communicating with families about what comes next.
APRIL 20 WILL BE A SCHOOL DAY
The April 20 bad weather day will be used, which means it is now a regular school day. At-home learning will take place.
TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
Does your family still need a technology device? The district is working to ensure all LISD families have at least 1 device per 2 students in a household. Beginning Monday, April 20, families still needing an iPad may call 469-713-5964 to schedule a pickup reservation.
NEW STUDENT ENROLLMENT
Are you enrolling a new student in LISD for the 2020-21 school year? We have resumed new enrollment for next year. Since campuses are closed, all enrollment processes will be done virtually, including document collection. This includes new incoming kindergarten and Pre-K students. Learn more on the enrollment webpage.
Reminders:
AT-HOME SUPPORT
LISD recently launched At-Home Support to help with questions or needs as you explore at-home learning with your student. You can find self-guided help documents or call, chat or email live representatives who can provide support. Visit LISD.net/athomehelp to get started!
DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
As a reminder, the LISD Code of Conduct is still in place and digital citizenship is important during a time where we are communicating primarily with technology. For more information about digital citizenship, see our latest update and find tips for using WebEx Teams as a family here.

Mindful Monday -
What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is the ability to be in the moment. To be aware of where we are and what we are doing. That might sound simple, but in our fast-paced world we are often so busy multitasking, we don't take time to be present. Practicing mindfulness can reduce stress and anxiety. Mindfulness can increase your sense of calm and happiness.
Try this mindful activity a few times a day with your child and see the results!
Coined by former Mindful School co-founder Laurie Grossman and Mr. Musumeci's Grade 5 class of the book "Master of Mindfulness: How to Be Your Own Superhero in Times of Stress" fame, the Shark Fin is a fantastic tool that you can use during any quick moment in your day. It will help to calm you and your child when their minds and bodies may be fighting against them.
· * Place the side of your hand on your forehead, with your palm facing out to the side.
· * Close your eyes.
· * Slide your hand down your face, in front of your nose.
· * Say “shhh” as you slide your hand down your face
· * If you are sitting down, you do the 5 Ss while you move your hand: Sit up straight, sit still, sit silently, soft breathing, shut eyes.
· * If you are standing do the same but you are standing straight, still, silently,
using soft breathing, and shut eyes while you move your hand down your face.

Talk About it Tuesday
Connection. As humans, we are built to connect with each other. Right now, you have the unique opportunity to connect with your child. Try some of these questions tonight at the dinner table:
1. If you won a $1,000,000 what would you do with it?
2. What is something you are looking forward to?
3. If you could go BACKWARDS in time, where would you go and why?
4. If you could go FORWARD in time, where would you go and why?
5. What has been your favorite 4 things about school this year?
Wellness Wednesday.
