"D.A.D.S. with Tools" Work Party TOMORROW, February 8, 8 am-12 pm
**Carpentry and stucco aficionados- we need your expertise and any tools you can bring.**
We will be building 3 new planter boxes for classroom patios. If we get enough dads we can finish them so the kids can start using them sooner. Please come on out to help! We're also repairing and painting backpack hooks and shelves, and building a new one.
If you have them, bring drill drivers, eye protection, work gloves, hand tools, paint brushes and rollers, and rags. Contact Victor if you have a miter saw you can bring.
Go onto campus through the gate at the ESS parking lot and meet on the back playground. Come for as little or long as you’re able to.
Jog-a-Thon is February 11
Park Village Penguins, get ready to run for your health! The Annual Jog-a-thon is just 4 days away. All classes, including our preschool, will take to the PE track as parents and teachers cheer you on. Remember, our school-wide goal for raising money for our Science, Technology, Art, Music, PE, and community programs is $25,000. Small donations add up, so reach out to friends and family, near and far, for help in raising money. Together, we can do it! https://app.99pledges.com/fund/ParkVillage2020
Recycling Collection February 12
Recycling Collection is Wednesday, 2/12, 8-9AM, at the ESS Parking Lot. Bring your #1 CRV, aluminum cans, CRV Glass and household batteries to drop off. Count the number of CRV items and jot it down on a slip of paper to drop off. Please don't tape it to the bag, it will most likely be buried and not seen. This is for the end of the school year tally for prizes for the top students. It helps us out if you can sort and crush your items, or at least not have the caps on the bottles and keep glass separate. All the money redeemed for your items goes directly to the school. Come out and help sort and crush too, kids welcome. Contact Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com if you have questions. Thank you!
Spirit Day: Inside Out Day
By Alex Kun, Communications Officer
Middle-Grade Author Will Visit PVES Next Week!
Barnes & Noble Mira Mesa is bringing children’s author Gordan Korman, the author of Restart, Swindle, Ungifted and many other books to talk with our third, fourth and fifth grade students on Wednesday, February 12. Mr. Korman will discuss his books and writing process, then do a Q&A, and sign any books that students have ordered. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to connect our students to a well-known children's author.
Barnes & Noble author visits are free for the school. They just ask that 3-5 grade students take home pre-order forms for Mr. Korman's books. Purchases are not required for attendance at the assembly. If your child chooses to order books, the form and payment must be returned no later than Monday, Feb. 10. Return them to your child’s teacher.

A New Way to Track Box Tops Participation!
Now when families use the Box Tops app to scan their store receipt, they can "Give Credit" to a teacher! To "Give Credit" make sure you have the latest version of the Box Tops app, scan your receipt, then tap the star icon to enter your "Give Credit" memo.
You can still clip Box Tops on packages & send them to school. Physical Box Top clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. Send your clipped Box Tops, along with any unexpired clips you may have at home, to your teacher.
Please visit https://www.boxtops4education.com for more information.
Volunteer Opportunities for 2019 - 2020
Park Village prides itself on our programs and events. However, they are all run by parent volunteers, and we need your help! We have opportunities of all types and sizes. Even one hour once a month can make a difference!
- Library - Help reshelve books. This task is constant and can happen any time of day. Perhaps you can help after morning drop-off or while waiting to pick up your child in the afternoon? You can make a difference in as little as 15-20 minutes. I just need folks to stop by regularly. Many hands make light work! No experience is required. If you’re interested, please email me at sfleming@powayusd.com, or stop by the library to chat.
- Recycling - Help sort and crush recycling. Second Wednesday of every month, 8-9 am, ESS Parking Lot. Even 15-30 minutes before school is a big help!. Contact Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com.
- Science Night Volunteers - You will oversee a station while our little ones sharpen their science skills with their parents. Please sign up for a night when your own child is not attending - PV Science Night Volunteers. Contact Shannon Nellies at s.nellies72@gmail.com.
- Marquee Editor in Chief(s) - Update the marquee in the front of the school with our PVE news, and help keep our families informed! Contact Gigi in the office.
Parking Lot Reminders
Please remember that the parking lot is for teachers and staff only, with the exception of the clearly marked visitor spots. We have many support staff members whose hours begin after class is in session. When they have to spend their time searching for parking off campus, it negatively impacts our student services. Thank you for your help!
