Ms. M's Kinder GATE
Our Classroom News - November
A Note From Ms. M
We are working hard in Kinder. Students are really starting to grow when it comes to their phonics skills, including reading cvc words! Be sure to practice reading any of the paper book students bring home. We are excited to be finishing our pumpkin unit and incorporating some fun Thanksgiving crafts into the next few weeks.
Good to Know
ELA (English Language Arts)
We are continuing to work on cvc words (sat, pin, cup, etc) and rhyming words. Students are working on reading nonsense words and orally segmenting words - tell them the word cat, they tell you the sounds /c/ /a/ /t/ - to get them ready for our next Dibels test coming at the end of the month.
Curriculum: Benchmark Advance
Additional Phonics Curriculum: ECRI
Sight Words: I, see, a, like, the, go, we, can, she, is, he, has,
Upcoming Sight Words: my, to, play, little, in it
Math
Math - We are starting our unit on measurement and weight. We are also reviewing 3D Shapes.
Writing
We continue to work on our sentence writing. A good kinder sentence needs a capital letter at the beginning, finger spaces and punctuation at the end. If we come to a word we don’t know how to spell, we stretch the word and write the sounds that we hear.
