October 2023 • Preparing Today for Tomorrow's Workforce
CTAE Unlocks the Future in Pasco County!
As you'll see in the many stories that follow, students and teachers in our CTE and Adult Education programs have been very busy this semester!
Workforce Development Month was a time to celebrate the progress made towards strengthening workforce education opportunities for Florida students. Pasco County Schools CTAE (Career, Technical, and Adult Education) provides training programs and career pathways which include state licenses, industry certifications, and digital tools certificates.
Please take a few minutes to view the video below, produced by Andy Dunn of our Communications Department, which highlights the workforce successes of several of our students.
Looking forward this semester, the CTAE team is preparing for program advisements with our school-based colleagues, and a district-wide comprehensive needs assessment. We are continuing to support teachers by facilitating our first day-long Professional Learning Community (PLC) sessions since 2019. S.B. 240 is driving the expansion of our workforce development. Adult Education continues to be in demand, and we've partnered with Pasco Hernando State College to offer courses on the Dade City campus for students on the east side of the county. There's certainly an impressive amount of collaboration happening!
As always, we are "Preparing Today for Tomorrow's Workforce" and we appreciate your support of our students and schools!

Mock Interviews Prepare AAI Students for Success
Students demonstrated and applied professional oral and written communication skills through job application completion, resume preparation, attire, and interviewing skills. At least two students received job offers on the spot. Business partners were pleased with the level of preparation, professionalism, and skills that students demonstrated within one month of the start of school.

MTC Patient Care Tech Updates
The students are also learning the knowledge and skills required to pass the Florida State Certified Nursing Assistant license exam they will take in October. This included the base knowledge of what CNAs do, the skills they perform, and concepts such as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Building their own hierarchy of needs pyramids, reinforced this concept with a fun group activity. They began clinical rotations in a long term care facility working with veterans, as well as their Home Health Aide clinical rotations!
To prepare for their upcoming Phlebotomy exam, the students have also begun practicing blood draws on our manikin arms in preparation to perform on real patients at Trinity Hospital.
In preparation for their clinical rotations, they also learned the importance of how to put on and take off, PPE correctly, and what the different modes of transmission are. The students had to remove gowns that were covered in fake blood, without getting it on themselves, which really opened their eyes to the importance of safety in the medical field.
Last month, we welcomed Mrs. Taylor's Adults with Disabilities class into our lab. During this collaboration, our PCT students took vital signs and helped to teach the students about health, medications, and CPR. Mrs. Taylor's class taught our PCT students about different ways to communicate, and the importance of listening and understanding.
Our students will be volunteering at our elementary schools, helping with the District Health Screening program to gain experience with our pediatric population.
