Learning at Home
Bridges 2nd Edition Family SupportThe resources provided below are for family members of students in classrooms currently using Bridges 2nd Edition. We offer them to provide guidance and suggestions for participating in your child's learning—your best source for answering questions and getting assistance is your student's teacher.
| Writing at HomeWriting is a terrific way for children to express their thoughts, creativity, and uniqueness. It is also a fundamental way in which children learn to organize ideas. And learning to write well helps children to be better readers. When engaging in writing, young children often mirror what they see around them: adults and older children writing lists, letters, text messaging. They are observing the way writing is used in our everyday lives. Put up a finger every time your child does not know a word. If you have put up more than five fingers before the end of the page - this book is too hard for your child. Choose books that match your child’s likes and interests. Check For Understanding Start the book by making predictions. What do you think will happen in this story? Ask questions and make comments during the reading process. After reading a book, have your child tell you the events from the story in the correct order. What was the problem in this story? How did the character feel when…? Encourage your child to make connections. Does this story remind you of another book you read, an event in your life, a movie? |

Parking Lot Safety
We appreciate your patience with the changes of our parking lot. As you know, our parking lot gets pretty busy at the end of the day.
We have been asked by the Hillsboro Police Department to remind you that it is illegal to park or stop in the bike lane on Cornelius Pass. Please know that tickets can be given if cars are stopped there.
Here are a few suggestions that may help:
Choose to come a few minutes later to stagger the arrival of drivers. Adults stay with children until they have all been picked up.
If available, have your child ride the bus.
Circle around the block.
We apologize for the inconvenience. It takes teamwork between the school and parents to make our after-school pick-up successful. Thank you so much for your cooperation!
