Cabarrus's County seat is the City of Concord

Where it all began

Cabarrus County was founded in 1792 and is located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. It has a population of almost 200,000 people. Cabarrus County was named after Stephen Cabarrus of Chowan, Speaker of NC House of Commons. Some surrounding counties are Rowan, Stanly, Iredell, Union, and Mecklenburg.

Cabarrus County Government

The Mayor of this great City is J. Scott Padgett who was elected in 2001 and has been serving the City Council since 1995. The Council is made up of 8 members who have been serving on the council for up to 10 years. The City Council meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6:00 pm. The Town manager is W. Brian Hiatt who has been serving since 1998. The County board of Commissioners is made up of 5 members. The Board of Commissioners appoints who will be the County Manager. The County Manager is Mike Downs.

Cabarrus County is home to Reed Gold mine, the first gold mine in the country. You can do some shopping in Concord Mills Mall or even have a day of fun at Great Wolf Lodge. Historic Facts

Concords history dates back over 200 years. Back in the late 1700s, it appears their was a disagreement on where the county seat of Cabarrus County should be placed betweeen the Germans and Scots- Irish settlements, eventually their was a compromise and the new city was founded in 1796 on a 26 acre site.
