Hello Shoemaker Families!

I am excited to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year! We cannot wait to see our students on Monday August 29th, and our families at Meet the Teacher Night on Wednesday August 31st. As a reminder, Meet the Teacher Night is for grades 1-5 and a night for our parents to receive important information from our staff. Students should not attend Meet the Teacher Night. We welcome and value your dedication as our partners in education, and we look forward to working with you throughout another successful school year.

Please do not ever hesitate to reach out to me in person, via phone or email.

See you soon!

Best regards,

Joshua Radcliffe

Drop-off and Pick Up Procedures

The student drop-off and pick-up procedures that were developed during our last couple school years were very successful. Therefore, we will continue with the same procedures for the 2022-23 school year. Please follow the directions below:

  1. All vehicles must enter Fairview Street from Route 100.

  2. Drive past the first left entrance to Shoemaker - continue on to the second left entrance (where the buses enter the campus).

  3. Make a left turn into the parking lot (upper level).

  4. Make a right turn at the end of the parking lot and drive to the front of the building.

  5. All vehicles must display a Shoemaker postcard in their front passenger side window with the student's name and grade level. The postcard will be given to you on the first day of school when you arrive in the morning.

**Please be aware that Macungie and Shoemaker families enter the same way. It is imperative that you stay in ONE lane on Fairview Street, and then move to the left only once you are on the Shoemaker campus.**

For both parent pick-up and drop-off, you will be required to stay in your car, and the car line (between the cones and the curb) until the cars ahead of you move. Please DO NOT go around other cars to get out of the line. Be sure that your child is ready to go when you pull up in the morning. Several staff members will be there to guide them into the building. Students may only enter and exit your vehicle on the passenger side.

DROP OFF: Drop off begins at 8:45AM and ends at 9:00AM.

PICK UP: Pick up times are as follows:

Grades k and 1 - 3:15 PM

Grades 2 and 3 - 3:17 PM

Grades 4 and 5 - 3:20 PM

*If you have children in multiple grades, please arrive at the youngest child's time.

Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.

From Mrs. Konjoian ~ IST

Welcome back! We are so excited to kick off a new year at Shoemaker! As we get settled into the new school year, students will participate in Shoemaker’s universal screening process. These screenings include both assessments in reading and math. During universal screening, assessments are administered that then provide teachers with an overall snapshot of how students are performing based on national norms. It is just one piece of data we use when determining a student's strengths and needs; it is not graded.

Once all students have been assessed, each grade level team will meet to review the data and develop instructional plans for students. These plans include opportunities for both enrichment and extra support as needed, which may include a reading or math intervention with an Academic Support Assistant, Interventionist or Learning Support Teacher.

If you have any questions regarding the universal screening or additional support/intervention placement process, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.

Also Welcome...

Hello Mustangs!

My name is Kyle Grim and I am the new Health Wellness Fitness teacher at Shoemaker Elementary. Having graduated from Shoemaker Elementary and Emmaus High school, I am extremely excited to return to the East Penn School district as a teacher! In addition to teaching, I also coach on the boy’s varsity soccer staff at Emmaus High School, as well as on the men’s soccer staff at Muhlenberg College. When I am not teaching or coaching, I enjoy skiing, hiking, cycling, and staying active in any way possible. I look forward to having an active, safe, fun, and all around fantastic year together at Shoemaker Elementary!

Hello there! My name is Rachel Seitz and I am joining the Shoemaker family as a learning support teacher. I graduated from Lehigh University last May with my M.Ed. in Special Education. Prior to jumping into the education field I worked as a Therapeutic Support Staff in school, home, and community settings. In my free time I enjoy watching documentaries, going for walks, volunteering with local community groups, and spending time with my husband and our two fluffy cats. Looking forward to a great school year!

From Mr. Shreck - Art

Mr. Shreck's Art Class

Hello Shoemaker students and families! I am so excited to start the school year and create some amazing art projects in the Art Room this school year! As the year rolls around on I will be sending all projects home with your student with the exception of one project that will be displayed for Open House. That project will then come home the day after being displayed.

As in past years I plan on using Seesaw to communicate with both students and families throughout the year. Please feel free to do the same and I will be sure to respond to all messages as soon as possible. Thank you for all you do and I will see you all soon!

5th Grade Art Club

I am excited to announce that the 5th grade Art Club will continue this year! This selected group of 5th graders will participate in activities at Shoemaker and in the community that showcase their creative concepts and artists talents. More information will be provided to 5th grade students on the first day of school, however it is important to know that while a handful of students will be selected (anywhere from 30-70 students have been selected in the past years), those students who bring in a project to "try out" for the 5th grade Art Club will have the chance to participate in activities.

Thank you so much and I will see you on the 1st day of school!

From Ms. Weiderhold - Music

Welcome Back Shoemaker musicians!

I am so excited to spend another year making music with all of you! Don't be alarmed if you notice that there is a different name on the music room door. I promise I am still the same person, however I returned to my maiden name over the summer. My maiden name isn't quite as easy as Becker, but I have no doubt that my Shoemaker friends will pick it up very quickly. My new name is Ms. Weiderhold. I am sure it will take some practice, but we will enjoy the fun adventure together. I can't wait to sing, play instruments, enjoy fun music games, and dance dance dance! See you soon!
