Donation items need to be small in size and inexpensive ($1-$3). (Examples of items are given, but you can purchase anything within the theme.) Great places to find things are in the dollar bins at Target, Michaels, and AC Moore, or at Walmart and 5 Below. Cash donations are also accepted.

PTA Positions for 2014-2015:

Looking to volunteer your time and talent to MCES? The PTA is currently looking for volunteers to head up our various committees and programs. If you are interested in helping out contact the nominating committee of AnnMarie Marchese and Kerri Delair at MCESPTANOMCOM2014@yahoo.com.

Tea and Tissues for Upcoming Kindergarten

The PTA is looking for someone who would be interested in starting a Tea and Tissues meeting for parents of upcoming Kindergarteners . The dates for this would be July 14 (tracks 1,2&3) and August 4 (track 4). The PTA would like to see this as a new tradition for parents to meet and learn about Middle Creek Elementary.

If you are interested, please email slbrown@nc.rr.com

** Our wonderful Counselor, Mrs. Fillard, has volunteered to co-chair this event so if you are thinking about it and were not sure you could handle it alone, you have a co-chair to help!!

School Store Volunteers Needed: track 2

The school store is looking for volunteers to help sell items to the kids on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:25am for the 2013-2014 school year. You would only be signing up for a couple mornings per month - not all of them! They are specifically short on volunteers from Tracks 2.This is a great way to volunteer if you're a working parent, and available in the mornings. If you can help out or would like more clarification of the exact hours she needs, please email Stephanie Petty at stephaniepettyrn@yahoo.com

Tuesdays: K-2 kids welcome from 8:00-8:25am
Thursdays: 3-5 kids welcome from 8:00-8:25am
The school store sells little pencils, erasers, fun little school items for kids to purchase - prices range from $0.10 - $2.00, so kids can easily afford to buy something even with a little bit of pocket change. It is located at the end of the main hallway, adjacent to the 2nd grade hallway.

Spanish Speaking Liaison Needed:

SIP would like to find a Spanish speaking Liaison that would be willing to be a contact for our Spanish speaking families. This individual would be available by phone or email to answer any questions or help translate for the families. Ideally, there would be one person for each track, but for now 1 would be great!

If you are interested, please contact Heather Lynch at heddilynch@me.com

Science Specialist: Jessica Peterson

As you know, I am the new science specialist teacher here at MCES. I come with 6 years of teaching experience; four years in fifth grade and two years in sixth grade science. I have my BS in elementary education from ECU and my MEd in science education from UNC-CH. I am so incredibly excited to be a part of such an amazing community here at Middle Creek! I have enjoyed meeting many of the students and look forward to getting hands on with them while we dig deeper into the curriculum and explore new things!

I was hoping to have the MCES family keep their eyes open for some items that I could really use in my classroom. I definitely DO NOT want anyone to go out and buy these things but I know sometimes people are trying to get rid of stuff!

aquariums/fish tanks/pet homes (for live lab materials- crickets, isopods, guppies, pond snails- and possibly for class pets in the future) A bonus would be things that go with them- lids, filters, lamps, gravel, etc.
old towels
containers/organizer caddies to hold supplies for each lab group
screw on soda bottle caps

Those are the only things I can think of now, but I may email you with additions to that list. I am also working on a webpage and I will pass that info on when it's complete. Thanks so much!
