Carnival Kids Raffle:
Attention MCES Parents!
The Spring Carnival 2014 planning is well underway! The Kid’s raffle will be at the Carnival again. In order for this to be successful, the PTA would greatly appreciate your help in providing a small donation item. Each grade is assigned a specific-themed item. Donation items need to be small in size and inexpensive ($1-$3). (Examples of items are given, but you can purchase anything within the theme.) Great places to find things are in the dollar bins at Target, Michaels, and AC Moore, or at Walmart and 5 Below. Cash donations are also accepted.
Kindergarten Collection- Sweet Treats (any candy, pack of gum, lifesavers, lollipops, NERDS, taffy, etc. or will accept bags of the small candy items.)Note- 3rd grade has chocolate!
1st Grade Collection- Girlie Things (nail polish, hair ties, socks, Squinkies, bracelets, silly bands, or other jewelry, key chains, etc.)
2nd Grade Collection – Boy Things (matchbox cars, baseball cards, keychains, mini –lego sets, silly bands, etc.)
3rd Grade Collection – Chocolate Lovers (anything chocolate, kisses, mini Hersheys, M & M’s, regular size candy bars, etc. or will except bags of the small chocolate bars.)
4th Grade Collection – School/Arts and Crafts ( pencils, pens, fun erasers, box of crayons, mini markers, sticky notes, scissors, stickers, stencils, beads, etc.)
5th Grade Collection – Sport Team Craze – (favorite college or pro team items – pencils, key chains, stickers, magnets, or anything small that you can find with a sport-team logo on it.)

** Our wonderful Counselor, Mrs. Fillard, has volunteered to co-chair this event so if you are thinking about it and were not sure you could handle it alone, you have a co-chair to help!!
School Store Volunteers Needed: track 2
Tuesdays: K-2 kids welcome from 8:00-8:25am
Thursdays: 3-5 kids welcome from 8:00-8:25am
The school store sells little pencils, erasers, fun little school items for kids to purchase - prices range from $0.10 - $2.00, so kids can easily afford to buy something even with a little bit of pocket change. It is located at the end of the main hallway, adjacent to the 2nd grade hallway.
Spanish Speaking Liaison Needed:
SIP would like to find a Spanish speaking Liaison that would be willing to be a contact for our Spanish speaking families. This individual would be available by phone or email to answer any questions or help translate for the families. Ideally, there would be one person for each track, but for now 1 would be great!
If you are interested, please contact Heather Lynch at firstname.lastname@example.org
Science Specialist: Jessica Peterson
As you know, I am the new science specialist teacher here at MCES. I come with 6 years of teaching experience; four years in fifth grade and two years in sixth grade science. I have my BS in elementary education from ECU and my MEd in science education from UNC-CH. I am so incredibly excited to be a part of such an amazing community here at Middle Creek! I have enjoyed meeting many of the students and look forward to getting hands on with them while we dig deeper into the curriculum and explore new things!
I was hoping to have the MCES family keep their eyes open for some items that I could really use in my classroom. I definitely DO NOT want anyone to go out and buy these things but I know sometimes people are trying to get rid of stuff!
aquariums/fish tanks/pet homes (for live lab materials- crickets, isopods, guppies, pond snails- and possibly for class pets in the future) A bonus would be things that go with them- lids, filters, lamps, gravel, etc.
containers/organizer caddies to hold supplies for each lab group
screw on soda bottle caps
Those are the only things I can think of now, but I may email you with additions to that list. I am also working on a webpage and I will pass that info on when it's complete. Thanks so much!
