Big Ideas Math Website Log In Directions
Go to www.bigideasmath.com Click the “Student” tab at the top. Parents, there is a tab for you to explore as well. Click on “Looking for easy access materials” On the bottom of the page choose “Click Here” Then Click OK Under Choose Your Program, select “A Focal Points Curriculum” Then Go. Select Green Book Click on “Ebook” tab for textbook or the “Help With Homework” You will not need to take home your textbook if you choose to use this website.
Big Ideas Math Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum that will guide our learning is Big Ideas Math. They will also use this series in middle school as well. It is a Common Core Curriculum. The Big Ideas Math program is designed to cover fewer, but more focused standards, conceptual understanding of key ideas, continual build on previously taught concepts, and teach problem solving using real world implications.
1st Nine Weeks Information
You can expect to hear from me weekly through the Remind app for all other math information, including weekly homework assignments.

Standard Checks and Tests
Standard Checks will occur after every few lessons. They are like a quiz that ensures that the desired learning outcome took place in the allotted time.
Standard Check 1: 1.1-1.3 by 8/21/2017
Standard Check 2: 1.4-1.5 by 8/31/2017
Standard Check 3: 2.1-2.4 by 9/11/2017
Standard Check 4: 2.5-2.8 by 9/29/2017
First Nine Weeks Post Test by 10/5/2017
*Pretest- First Week of School
*Post Test- Week before Fall break
*Chapter Tests will be given at the end of each chapter. You will be made aware of the dates one week prior to the test.
*Please be mindful that this is just an outline. I will pace the classes according to student progress and make you aware of any changes to the plan as we go.
Timed Tests and Grading Scale
Timed Tests will be given every week for practice. Every 3rd test will be recorded as a grade in INOW. These are not Multiplication Facts, these are the skills every 6th grade student should be fluent and proficient in. See the topics below.
First Nine Weeks Timed Test Topics
- Order of Operations- 10 Problems (10-15 minutes to complete them)
- Adding and Subtracting Decimals- 10 Problems (5-7 minutes to complete them)
- Distributive Property 10 Problems (5 minutes to complete them)
The grading scale for 6th grade math is as follows:
· Assessments- Chapter tests, weekly tests, quizzes- 50%
· Application- Project based- 20%
· Timed Tests- 10%
· Nine Weeks Test-20%
Math homework will be assigned daily, with the exception of Friday.
