Principal's Message
Thank you for coming to the school last week to pick up second semester materials. If you haven’t been able to pick them up yet, please know that we are open for pick ups daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you are unsure if your child has materials to pick up, please call the school and we will check for you.
We receive daily counts of student attendance from the District and ISB students have a high rate of attendance. Thank you for supporting them in getting online with their teachers and for the support I know that it takes for students to be successful in an International Baccalaureate program. Seniors in particular are working very hard as they complete the courses, oral assessments, and internal assessments necessary for a full IB diploma. IB students normally take IB exams in May. Due to the COVID restrictions, it is unlikely we will be able to have in-person exams. We will know for sure after February 12, so I hope I can confirm that information by next week.
On my walks I have seen crocus and one (yes, only one) daffodil blooming. However, the groundhog may have been correct in the prediction of six more weeks of winter. If the weather forecasts are at all correct, we may see some snow later this week. Just a reminder that we will continue distance learning even if we experience inclement weather.
Sincerely,
Janice Adams
Missed Curbside Pick Up?
You can still come to ISB to pick up your student's supplies and materials for second semester Monday through Friday from 8 am to 2 pm. Almost ALL students have items to pick up.
When you arrive at ISB in your car, please use the bus drop off lane to pull up to the front of the school. Call the office at 503-356-3690 to let us know you are here. Hold a sign up in the front window with the first and last name of the ISB student(s) clearly visible - large print in bold letters really helps! Open your car's trunk and wait for staff to place your textbooks and materials in it. Staff will be wearing masks and gloves when they do this.
Walking or biking to school to pick up supplies and materials is discouraged at this time due to safety reasons.
Schedule Change Request Form
Second semester begins on February 8th. Schedule changes must be made within the first 10 days of the semester. Changes made after this time will result in a Withdraw/Fail (W/F) recorded on your student's transcript.
Schedule change requests must be made by submitting this form: Schedule Change Request. The deadline to request a change is February 19th.
Schedule changes are made only to meet student's academic needs.
- Your counselor must approve all schedule changes
- Requests will be honored based on IB and graduation requirements, class availability, and scheduling conflicts
- In preparation for returning to the building in the Hybrid Model, students have been organized into cohorts. A schedule change request for even one course may result in a student's entire schedule being changed.
8th & 10th Grade Parent Nights - Feb. 10th
Believe it or not it is already time to start thinking about the 2021-22 school year! Most students will have a forecasting presentation in their Advisory class on Wednesday, February 10th. Counselors will come into 8th grade science classes February 8-9 to present about the transition to high school, as well as give forecasting information. We also offer two opportunities for parents of students in the transitional years of 8th and 10th grade to learn more and ask questions about what is offered at ISB.
- 8th Grade Parent Night will be held on Wednesday, February 10th from 6:00-6:45 via a YouTube livestream. Click this link to access. Those with a YouTube account will be able to ask questions through the chat feature. The same link can be used to watch a recording of the presentation if you are unable to make the scheduled time. Our presentation will focus on the transition to high school at ISB and what to expect as students finish out the IB Middle Years Programme in 9th and 10th grade, as well as a brief overview of the Diploma Programme in 11th and 12th grades. We will discuss finding the best fit for your student whether it be continuing at ISB or transitioning to your home high school.
- 10th Grade Parent Night will be held on Wednesday, February 10th from 7:00-7:45 via a YouTube livestream. Click this link to access. Those with a YouTube account will be able to ask questions through the chat feature. The same link can be used to watch a recording of the presentation if you are unable to make the scheduled time. This presentation focuses on the transition into the IB Diploma Programme at ISB, including a general overview, course selection, diploma requirements, and potential college credit. A handout of the presentation can be found here.
Forecasting/Course Selection for Next Year
In keeping with the times, online Google Forms will replace the paper forecasting worksheets from prior years. Links will be provided to students and their parents/guardians this week and will also be posted on our website under the "Academics" tab https://isb.beaverton.k12.or.us/academics/academic-program-guide/forecasting-worksheets.
- Students in grade 8 will receive this information on Monday and Tuesday, February 8th and 9th in their Science classes
- Students in grades 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11 will receive this information on Wednesday, February 10th during Advisory
NOTE: Students considering a transfer to a different school for next year will indicate this on their form and our counseling staff will work with families to facilitate any steps that are needed for those transitions.
Immunization Exclusion Day - Feb. 17, 2021
Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, child care facilities and Head Start programs in Oregon. Nearly every facility that provides care for a child outside the home requires immunizations or a medical or non-medical exemption to remain enrolled.
Children who are not up-to-date on their immunizations by February 17, 2021 will be excluded from school until their immunizations are updated. During Comprehensive Distance Learning, that means students will be put on a list and will not be allowed on campus for any reason until they’re up-to-date (i.e. no limited-in-person activities, no hybrid learning, no in-person learning, no athletics, no school events).
Keeping children up-to-date on immunizations will help schools transition safely and quickly to in-person learning when they’re able.
Students and families in the Beaverton School District may access immunizations at both the Beaverton School-Based Health Center and the Merlo School-Based Health Center in addition to their own health care providers.

Walk & Roll: It’s Good for Your Heart
Whether you walk or bike a few blocks or over a mile, physical activity is good for your heart, your whole body, and it’s fun! With cold winter weather, children spend less time playing outside, but a nice brisk walk or bike ride will help achieve their recommended 60 minutes daily exercise and help prevent childhood obesity and support healthy bones.
