From the Principal
Dear Hawkins Families!
Our weather is starting to be a bit nicer (minus the snow tomorrow!), so please have your child take all of their snow gear home. Also, please remember that our bell for instruction rings at 8:47am. Please make every effort to have your child here by that time. Lately, we have had many tardies and want to make sure our students are in their classrooms learning from the very beginning of the day:-)
I wanted to remind all of our 3rd and 4th grade families that our 4th graders will be starting their M-Step testing this Monday, April 29 and will go through Thursday, May 2. Our 3rd graders will begin testing the following week, Monday, May 6-Thursday, May 9. Following these two state assessments, our entire school will be finishing out the school year with our NWEA assessment that our students have taken 2x already this year. You will receive the NWEA assessment scores with your child's report card at the end of the year.
If you feel you have compelling information to contribute to the placement decision, our Placement Consideration Forms are available in the office. Please complete the form and submit it to the main office by April 30, 2019. This additional information will help assist us in the construction of balanced classrooms. Please remember that requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Mileage Club
MILEAGE CLUB TIME is almost here!!
Hello Parents! Mileage Club time is starting next week. For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, Mileage Club is a school-wide motivational program that encourages students to walk/run for fun. It will be starting at lunch recess on Tuesday, April 30th for 4 weeks, every Tuesday and Thursday until May 30th. For each mile students complete, they will be given a token! These toe tokens can be used in exchange for popcorn on popcorn Fridays or they can keep them as treasures. For more information or to volunteer please click on the link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b44acaf2aa1fb6-mileage. Younger siblings are most definitely welcome to accompany you. On your day to volunteer, simply sign in at the office and join us on the playground outside the second grade doors.
Please encourage your first through fourth grader to participate in this fun and beneficial activity. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Quinn at quinn.jen@gmail.com
Thank you!!

News From the Nurse
It is that time of the year when kids are outside a lot more and so are ticks! Please be sure to check your children thoroughly for ticks on their clothing and skin after playing outdoors. Common places for ticks to nestle include: under the arms, in and around the ears, inside the belly button, back of the knees, in and around hair, between the legs and around the waist. If a tick is found, remove it as soon as possible. For detailed information about tick removal, see www.cdc.gov/ticks/removing_a_tick.html. If your child develops a rash or a fever within several weeks of being bit by a tick, seek medical attention.
