The Connector
News from the Lancaster County School District, July 2022
Lancaster County Community,
We are about halfway into summer break which means you are likely beginning to see signs of the new school year in your local stores. This may make some of you happy, others not so much! I can tell you we love it because that means the buildings we are working so hard to get ready for the 2022-2023 school year will soon have little feet walking up and down the hallways to classrooms where they will learn new things!
On the facility side of things, we are continuing to update HVAC systems in buildings, renovating portable classrooms in some schools, repaving areas in need and much more. On the personnel side of things, we are hiring new teachers, administrators, cafeteria staff, bus drivers, substitutes and more. Many of our teachers are continuing their education and participating in voluntary training to be the best they can be.... all for the children of Lancaster County.
We see summer break as an opportunity to catch up where we need it most. We can't wait to see you in August. Enjoy the rest of your time off!

School Supply Drive
Our district School Supply Drive is in full swing! We are hoping to receive enough school supplies to equip every child with the tools they need to learn right here in Lancaster County.
We have nearly 15,000 students in our district. Of those students, 47% qualify for free and reduced lunch. That’s nearly half of our student population. We have a need right here in Lancaster County and we hope you can help us fulfill that need!
The residents in your neighborhood can help in one of three ways:
Order supplies online at bit.ly/2022LCSDSupplyDrive (or scan the QR code on the attached flyer). Items will be shipped directly to the district office.
Make a donation. Checks can be made out to LCSD (memo: School Supply Drive) and mailed to the district office, attn: School Supply Drive, 300 S. Catawba Street, Lancaster, SC 29720.
Stuff the Bus with supplies at the following locations on Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, July 26 from 8am - 4pm: Lancaster Walmart (805 Hwy 9 ByP W); Indian Land Intermediate School (8361 Charlotte Hwy)

Fundraiser Follow Up
Mandy Whitten and her students at Discovery School set out on a mission to learn and spread awareness about the water crisis around the world. They held multiple events to raise money including staffing a treat cart for five mornings and a breakfast drive-thru three mornings. Ms. Whitten says the best part of the last month of school was that the 5th grade students showed up before school, excited to take charge and share an opportunity with their community in a time when things are winding down, everyone is reviewing and assessing. Instead, their excitements was infectious and charity: water became a buzzword throughout the school.
During this process, the students learned about water systems, water supply, disease, empathy, advertisement, product placement, pricing, customer service and growth analysis.
