A Message from the Principal
Dear Bloomingdale Families,
We have settled back into our routine here at Bloomingdale Elementary following a much needed winter break. As I write this letter we are at the halfway point in our school year. So much has taken place already, but we also have so much left to accomplish. Our 4th and 5th graders went to Titus Mountain for a ski trip on January 18th and our PBIS “Booster” Assembly took place on January 30th. Typically, this assembly is used as an opportunity to remind students of expected behavior and conduct and to reinforce these expectations leading into the 2nd half of the year. I am proud to report that students have been conducting themselves in wonderful fashion and we were able to focus more on positive character traits than rules and procedures. Students and staff shared their most significant character traits and recognized these traits as our very own “Super Powers.”
Speaking of Positive Character Traits, during January we explored the traits of Perseverance, Hope/Optimism, Prudence, and Supporting Others While They Struggle. In February, we will cover Social Intelligence, Love, and Zest/Enthusiasm. Each week, we continue to identify a new positive character trait and explore the various aspects that represent that trait. We hope to help students identify their strongest traits as tools to rely on, but also to help students build the capacity to utilize additional positive character traits that are not currently their strength. As students build their positive character traits, they add to their “Super Powers.”
Looking ahead to February, we have our monthly Parent Luncheon on the 1st, the Fourth and Fifth grade Spelling Bee at Petrova Elementary on the 7th, and the Winter Carnival Gala parade on the 9th. Fourth graders will be traveling to the ADK Mountain Club to snowshoe on the 15th and our PBIS assembly will be on the 27th. There is no school on February 8th for Winter Carnival and no school on the 18th for Presidents’ Day observance. Looking further ahead, the March Parent Luncheon is on March 1st, and please mark your calendars for our Parent-Teacher conferences on March 8th and 11th. March 8th and 11th will both be half days for students.
I look forward to an exciting 2nd half of the school year!
