Week 8, T3 2022
16/9/22 - He Pānui Wiki Waru, Whānga Tuatoru
Tēnā koutou katoa (hello everyone)
Kia ora from Ōtautahi (Christchurch). I have been lucky enough to spend time down here with fellow principals and educators at the NZPF Conference. Lots of cool speakers and inspiring things to think about. Thanks to everyone at school who has pitched in during what has been a busy week with the South Wairarapa Hockey; Dance Splash & Camp Kaitoke.
Well done to our Dance Splash crew, Miss Peterson & whānau who helped with transport, prep & kai. By all accounts the performance wen't really well and everyone had fun performing at the Michael Fowler Centre. Watch the full peformance below.
Our Year 3&4 students headed off to Camp Kaitoke on Wednesday morning with Mrs Church, Mrs Douglas and a wonderful group of parents for 3 days of fun-filled activities. From what we have seen so far it looks like they are having a magic time and we can't wait to hear all about it on Monday.

Hopefully everyone got a copy of the list of things coming up over the next few weeks. On Monday we have our BoT Meeting at 6:30pm. Tuesday sees the start of 'Gladdy's Got Talent', Wednesday we have school photos being taken by Belinda Pratt and then the following Monday the 26th of September, we have a public holiday for Queen Elizabeth II.
This year we are taking a performance group to the Kapa Haka Festival in Week 10. Students have opted into this. Our peformance time is 12:45 on Wednesday the 28th of September. The festival is taking place at Chanel College. Students will be transported by bus and the group members will be confirmed this coming Monday when we can get everyone together (Year 4-8). Once confirmed, whānau will be notified if their child has opted into this.
If things start to feel a bit overwhelming, please pause, breathe, smile just like the kids do at school and let us know if you have any questions.
Ngā manaakitanga,

Year 7&8 Rangatahi Strategy Workshop
The team from the Carterton Council came and worked with Ōnoke yesterday and sent through this message: "I just wanted to thank you for allowing me to talk with your year 7 and 8 class yesterday.
It was a pleasure to meet them all. Your students were engaged and asked really great questions about what we do at council. They knew a lot already about the things happening in our community as well which was so positive to hear." Super work guys.

FoGS Update
Reminder: Plant Stall - Gearing Up For A Bumper Year
Our plant stall has gained quite the following over the years, but we need plenty of plants in order to maintain it’s stellar reputation! All types of plants sell well - veges, herbs, shrubs, flowers and natives - we’ll take any you can spare! We’ve also found garden pots and ornaments are popular, as well as indoor plants - any cuttings gratefully received. Message Kat on 022 425 7760 if you need any potting mix or pots, or if you’d like some help with potting up. Similarly, if you have plants potted up but don’t want to look after them until November, let us know and we’ll take care of them for you.
Reminder: Community Scarecrow Making
This year the Scarecrow Fair theme is 'Space'. Get your friends and neighbours organised to start creating community scarecrows. We'd love to see them popping up any time from now on. This year there will be a major prize for the winning entry and we'd love to do a push on community involvement to amp up our revitalised scarecrow drive.
