Plot Summary
This book is about Katniss Everdeen going to and winning the Hunger Games. The book starts on the reaping day, where they draw the names of the people who will be in the Hunger Games. The events leading to the climax are when Katniss prepares for the games, during the games, especially when she gets injured and Peeta helps her, and when he's injured and she helps him. The climactic scene is when then end is near and her and Peeta are the last two left. They could kill the other and win, but choose to stand by the other's side, even if they don't win. That is when the people at the Capitol realize that since it is just the two of them from the same district, they both deserve to win and not kill the other one of "them" that can relate and is closest to them. They end up both winning and when they head back to the Capitol and the district, they get treated well and everyone is celebrating for them, they are happy and everyone in the district is happy.
Conflict
The main problem in the book is Katniss going to the Hunger Games and dying if she doesn't win. She wants to win for her sister, since she went in place of her and wants to get the tessera for the district, since they have a very poor district. She is the main person involved in the conflict, along with the other tributes.
Quotation Explanation
"Prim!" The strangled cry comes out of my throat, and my muscles begin to move again. "Prim!" I don't need to shove through the crowd. The other kids make way immediately allowing me a straight path to the stage. I reach her just as she is about to mount the steps. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me.
"I volunteer!" I gasp. "I volunteer as tribute!"
I chose this quote because it is the reason why Katniss goes to the Hunger Games and shows that Katniss will do anything to protect her sister. It proves that her sister means more to her life, and she will do anything to protects what matters to her, which I find important about her character and who she is.
Book Review
I think the book is very good and well written. i like the concept and the character traits used for Katniss, like that she is not some girly girl and can stand on her own. I like how she is willing to protect and risk herself for those she loves. Overall, there would be just some small details I would change, but other than that, I really liked the book and the plot to it. I also like how the movie and the book are very related.
