A Message from Mrs. Tate
Dear St. Michael Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family safely sheltered and warm. This has been a wild week of weather, and I want to thank you for your support as we navigate what’s best for our students, families, teachers, and staff. On Tuesday, Brian Rutledge, SMA facilities manager, and his crew did an amazing job clearing the snow and ice to prepare for our students and staff to safely return to school. Thank you, Brian and crew, for your hard work! It was a big reason we were able to return to school on Wednesday.
Today’s weather events were much trickier to predict. The Johnson County Archdiocese principals work together to make decisions on days like these, and the recommendation of the committee was to cancel school due to uncertain weather conditions. We make the best decision we can with the information we have at the time. I can assure you that we don't make these decisions lightly and have the safety of our families and staff at the center of our decisions.
In two weeks, we will celebrate our Catholic school with Catholic Schools Week! This is a wonderful time of celebration to show our appreciation for St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School and to promote its excellence to potential families. Please plan to join us for our Open House on January 28 between 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Bring your family to check out the latest learning going on in our school, take a tour to see new update, and check out some of the new technology purchased for students and staff.
We would love to welcome our parishioners to come and see what’s happening at SMA. We are extending an invitation to all school families, parishioners, guests, and potential new families! We love our school and want to share the love and joy with our entire SMA community. All are welcome. We’ll have DONUTS!
As a reminder, here are the themes for each day of Catholic Schools Week:
· Jan. 28 – Sunday – Celebrating our Parish – Open House from 9:30-12:30

Please watch for an email next week with more details about activities for Catholic Schools Week.
On Monday, January 15, our school will join the nation in honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy. This serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of love, understanding, and unity in building a just society. Together, as a community rooted in faith, we can continue to build a society that reflects the love and justice exemplified by Dr. King.
May God bless you and your families and keep you safe always!

Cyber Safety Resources
During our last Parent Formation Night: Building the Domestic Church, we hosted two speakers on the topic of keeping kids safe on the internet and when using technology. Our speakers were from the Sunflower House and the FBI. They shared many great resources and examples during their presentation and were kind enough to share some of the documents/resources with us. Please click on this link to be directed to those resources.
Watch the newsletter for more opportunities next semester to engage in this and similar discussions.
