WLWV Community Update
October 7, 2019
The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board has placed two measures on the upcoming November Election ballot. Those measures include a $206.8 million capital bond to fund several construction projects as well as a local option levy renewal that funds approximately 80 teachers across the district. Neither measure is expected to increase the current tax rate. Please take a moment to learn about these two measures by visiting www.wlwvbond.org.
Safety Spotlight — Animals in District Facilities
In July, the School Board adopted a new policy regarding animals in district facilities to ensure alignment across the school district. The policy creates a process for building administrators to approve and monitor long-term classroom pets and ensure the safety of students, staff, and animals on a daily basis.
Animals are a pivotal part of the educational experience in West Linn-Wilsonville schools and will continue to provide educational value to students as they always have. The policy ensures classroom pets serve an educational purpose, are well cared for, and are properly housed to protect district facilities.
Strings Registration Now Open!
Registration is now open for the West Linn-Wilsonville Strings Program, which is open to all 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-graders. There is no experience necessary for the beginner's class, and an orchestra option is available for more experienced musicians.
Strings classes begin the week of October 15, meeting twice per week from 2:30-3:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Strings will take place at Stafford Primary this year, with busing provided from every district school. There will also be return busing to Boeckman Creek and Lowrie primaries for Wilsonville families. The registration fee is $199 for the year.
Families can visit the district website for more information or to register.
Interested in Joining WLWV Schools as a Paraeducator?
In the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, paraeducators are expected to help teachers establish and maintain a climate of learning, work as a part of a team, and demonstrate initiative in responding to students’ day-to-day needs. Examples of duties include working individually and in small groups with students at all skill levels with the goal of fostering independence in the areas of academics, social skills, communication, behavior, and functional routines. Paraeducators often provide support for students in the general education classroom, gymnasium, lunchroom, playground, and in the community.
To learn more about this opportunity, please visit the employment section of the district website, or contact your school front office or principal for more information.
