It is located in the north western part of North Carolina. The river is 801 miles long and a small portion of it is in in NC. 49,653 people lived there in 2000. The river consist of various fishing spots, boating entry points, and swimming holes all over. In 1970 residents banded together to prevent the construction of a dam on the river. Boone waste water plant dumps 1.5 million gallons of waste in the river frequently. As well as runoff from farms in the area. The way they fixed this problem i by finding a alternative way to dump their waste. and by making sure the runoff is clean before it enters the river.
