Reflecting on the past week...

November has certainly had a fierce beginning! Looking forward to less record-breaking and more of a gentle transition to the colder weather! Eeks!

Sweater season is upon us! Don't our students look amazing in their sweaters and ties! It really does bring the standard up and hopefully helps students to focus more on the tasks at hand as they go through their day.

A little reminder for our male staff members... when students are in sweater season, it also requires our male staff members to wear a shirt and tie. Remember, students are looking to the adults in the building as their role models...in ALL we do!

Our first Academic Breakfast Tuesday morning was fabulous! Aron Olivares did an outstanding job on the piano. His music coupled with the delicious food provided by our kitchen staff provided a second-to-none ambiance! Thanks to the staff who were able to join us as well. Both parents and students are really very appreciative when the staff show their support of Marian students.

Wednesday's Late Start meeting began with some exciting shout-outs! It is always great to hear the great things that both our staff and students are doing!

Everyone should have received a copy of the book, Discipline with Dignity. If you didn't receive a copy, please check with Mr. Price in the office. As shared at the meeting, there is no pressure to read this book yet, although it is an easy read. Towards the beginning of the year, however, there will be some expectations pushed out, most likely in the form of online discussion threads, allowing staff members the opportunity to "discuss" their impressions of the book's contents and concepts. In the meantime, read at your leisure and apply what strikes you!

We also had a great discussion about our upcoming E-LEarning day, Nov. 15. Please refer to the agreed upon grading policies pushed out on an email that morning to all faculty. We have also shared the policy with the families in this week's Friday Focus.

Finally, we hope that your PLC meetings were productive. Make sure that the meeting minutes are dropped into the shared Department Meeting Folder on Google. Hopefully you are making good progress on your UBD development! Remember, if you need any assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to Administration!

This past Wednesday's Code Red Drill provided us with much useful information! Thanks to all of your cooperation in this drill. Please make sure you review Mr. Price's email sent November 7. In that email, he also provided Staffulty the opportunity to provide feedback that will hopefully help us improve the process. Click here to chime in!

Finally, everyone is abuzz about this weekend's production of Ask Any Girl! Remember, all staff members are able to receive 2 comp tickets to come support your students! Shows are Friday @ 7pm, Saturday @ 7pm, and Sunday @ 2pm.

What's coming up?

Monday brings the celebration of Veteran's Day. True, we are not off school to celebrate, but what better way to celebrate than to read an article, discuss a battle, or write about a family member who was an American Veteran! If you have a chance, please recognize the day in your classes! We actually do have one veteran on our staff... Marcus Kuiper served in the Marine Corps from 2008 to 2013. He was a combat cameraman and had reached the rank of Sergeant by the time he completed his service. Please take some time to thank Mr. Kuiper, and ALL veterans!

The three big events happening this coming week both occur on Friday. They are 8th Grade Visit Day, our first E-Learning Day, and Open House.

8th Grade Visit Day

I am certain that all of the departments are working diligently making plans on how to "wow" our visiting 8th graders! A reminder... if you haven't sent over your list of student helpers for this day, please send them to Ms. Novy as well as Mrs. DiSilvio. We need a count for the pizza lunch and for attendance purposes for our E-Learning Day. Thank you.

- A reminder that this is still a contractual day, therefore coming it at 7:40 am will allow you the opportunity to set up your E-Learning Day before the 8th grade visit begins

- Click here for the schedule

- Principals/teachers of the McHenry Deanery Schools will be meeting with Marian Administration to discuss how Marian determines incoming freshmen placement.

- Please stay afterwards for pizza! Remember, there is no PD afterwards!

With regards to the E-Learning Day Fri., Nov. 15, please remember some key points...

- Push out the assignment by 8:00 am

- Provide students with your office hours

- Student attendance is determined by their submission of your assignment

- Student assignment submission is due by 4:00 pm

** Being that this is the first time we are implementing an E-Learning day, we plan on post-gaming the process afterwards, so jot down plus/deltas that you identify.

Finally, Sunday, Nov. 17 is Marian's Open House from 1 - 3 pm. This is an important event for the future of Marian, as it is one of the best ways to get people into the school to see what Marian is all about. All faculty is expected to attend.

- Here is the table layout for the extra curricular fair, held in the main gym

- Key Club, StuCo, & NHS members will be available to provide visitors with tours of the school

- Each department should have one classroom set up to accept visitors. It's a great way for them to meet our faculty and find out what great opportunities lay ahead for prospective Marian students.

**Please remember that all staff must be at school no later than 12:30 pm to ensure that all elements of this special day are ready to go!

This week is an exciting one for Marian. We need to ensure we put our best foot forward! Thank you for all your efforts!

Have a wonderful week!
