The Summary of The Civil War

The American Civil War, widely known in the United States as simply the Civil War as well as other sectional names, was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865 to determine the survival of the Union or independence for the Confederacy.


The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order that Abraham Lincoln signed on January 1, 1863. It proclaimed the freedom of the 3.1 million slaves in the Confederate States of America. This enraged the south and turned this into a total war to destroy the Old South.

Robert E. Lee’s Virginia estate was confiscated by the Union and turned into a cemetery during the war.


Lincoln was shot at and almost killed nearly two years before he was assassinated.
