News from Dr. Cappucci
Choose to Be Nice
Julie Pasguino, school guidance counselor, will present monthly meetings with each classroom on the nine important values listed below.
Twelve 5th grade students will be called upon to be members of our Kindness Crew. The Kindness crew will be ambassadors of kindness for the Glenwood community.
We will be focusing on these nine important values throughout the year and they will be the focus of our monthly pledge awards.
A letter from Margaret Barton, Food Services Director.
Dear WRSD Families,
The WRSD Food Services Department is asking for your patience and support as we navigate new challenges. As you may be aware, we are currently faced with unprecedented shortages of food and packaging materials, and massive delays or cancellations of deliveries. Nationwide shortages and delays have affected availability of certain food items, leading to substitutions of menu items we’ve been able to offer regularly in the past. These supply issues are occurring throughout the country and are especially challenging for school systems, due to the quantity of meals we serve and the nutrition standards we follow.
All of this means that we may need to make quick substitutions to our menus based upon what we are able to acquire. We know that this affects students, and we will do our best to provide updates about menu changes when possible as soon as we identify an issue.
Please know that our number one priority continues to be providing healthy, nutritious, and appetizing meals for your children. We love seeing them every day and appreciate your support and patience as we continue to offer meals at no charge for all students. The good news is that free breakfast and lunch will continue throughout the school year, so please stick with us while we face yet another challenge. Your participation helps our program stay strong!
Please feel free to contact me at (508)829-1670 x278 or Margaret_Barton@wrsd.net with any questions or concerns.
News from Dr. McCall about COVID Safety Checks
Dear Wachusett Families and Staff:
Next week the District will begin offering routine COVID safety checks (formerly referred to as pooled testing) for all students and staff. Routine COVID safety checks will assist the District by helping catch the potential spread of the virus before it starts.
At this time, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) are recommending that only non-vaccinated members of our school communities participate in routine COVID safety checks.
If you would like to sign up yourself (for faculty/staff) or your child(ren) (for parents of students) to participate in weekly COVID safety checks and have not yet completed the consent form, please complete the consent form linked here: WRSD COVID 19 Testing Consent Link
If you want more information about routine COVID safety checks, please click here.
Homework at Glenwood- Students are expected to read nightly and practice their facts.
In an effort to allow children to be children and give them time to explore their interests and spend time with their families, we will continue with our unstructured homework. It is expected that students read (20 -40 minutes a night depending on their grade levels) and practice math facts nightly. However, there won’t be a reading log or anything to check off for math facts - it’s just expected that both will be done. Students will be held accountable for knowing their math facts as well as reading for enjoyment each night. The only time homework will be formally assigned is when students need to study for a test/quiz or complete a project. Here is a list of things you can do with your child at home in the absence of formal homework. I know it is tempting for children to use a device or watch TV in the absence of formalized homework, but the following list will provide a more fun and enriching experience for your child.

Emily Ryan and Abigail Bouley
Our Makerspace and Science Lab were closed for 18 months. We are so excited to open them up this year.
Please do not drop off Makerspace materials if we are not in the building. We will have to throw away the materials if we are unsure of where they came from. Thank you for understanding.
A true makerspace is defined not by what's in it, but rather by what comes out of it: projects, experiences, artifacts, and learning. At Glenwood we are looking to have a makerspace that opens opportunities for children to design, create and explore. We are looking for donations of materials we can use in our makerspace. We are in desperate need of materials for our makerspace. Some things that we can not get enough of are:
small pieces of wood and nails for building
Cereal and cardboard boxes
masking and duct tape,
toilet paper and paper towel rolls,
craft supplies,
cereal boxes,
cardboard,
fabric, yarn,
streamers
plastic containers,
or anything that may end up in the recycling bin
We appreciate these and other materials that are in a clean and usable condition.
We need wood, nails and any other materials on the list.
Thank you to all the families who are remodeling and building sheds.
