5K for Forsyth
Time to run/walk a 5K as a school!!! As the leadership of Mashburn, I am asking you to help get interest up to support the 5K BYOT irun 2018! It is a 5K Run/Walk on October 6, starting at 8:00am, at Shiloh Point. I'm the team captain for Mashburn (stop that...I hear you giggling).
Could you please share/talk this up at your grade level meetings on Wednesday…I will send another email to all of staff on Thursday morning!
Oh….and YES….there is officially a competition between all the schools….so now it is just “on!!!!”
What we are running for:
Over 2,000 families in Forsyth County do not have Internet in their homes. With so much of the schoolwork requiring online access, we want to make a difference in the lives of those who do not have the same priviledges as others.
In five years, the Forsyth BYOT Benefit has raised over $220.00 to put Internet in the homes and devices in the hands of students without them.
What we need to do:
Sign up for the iRun! Get your grade level to sign up! Show some Mashburn love and have lets have THE MOST PARTICIPANTS of any other school!! You know a ton of us run (or walk) these 5K's all the time--why not do one together to help our kids! Bring your family!! When you sign up, on the emergency contact page, it asks if you are running for a school, and then you can mark what school you are from. Make sure you mark it so Mashburn gets credit! If you can't be there, there is also a way you can donate/sign up as a "phantom runner" and indicate that you are "running" for Mashburn…so we can still show our support for this!!
Packet pickup will be at the BOE on the afternoon of October 5th from 11:30-6:00 pm (I will be happy to pick up packets for whoever needs me to and have them there race day morning)!
Cost: $25.00 (+3.00 sign up) now $30.00 after September 25th: this goes directly to funding technology for Forsyth County kids. If you are like me, you look for events like this where the fee goes to a good cause...what better cause than the kids in our own county!
To sweeten the deal a little:
1.The first 10 people who sign up OR donate (show me their confirmation), get to choose between a "Wear what you want," pass or a “leave with the buses” pass!!
2. The FIRST school team that gets ALL members to sign up OR donate as a “phantom runner,” gets breakfast for the team AND a choice of the two passes….YOU WILL HAVE TO BE THE FIRST TO SHOW ME THAT ALL MEMBERS HAVE SIGNED UP OR DONATED…I LIVE IN 213 AND AM USUALLY HERE BY 6:15…EARLY BIRD WINS THE BREAKFASTJ !!!
3. The Second Place Winner for #2: ALL members sign up OR donate (OR the team with the most signed up/donate), gets breakfast for their team.
I would love for you to come run with me (ok...I'll be walking...but you can run if you want:)). Again, I'm going to let you talk to your grade levels first, then I will send out an invitation to the entire staff on Thursday.
This invitation and challenge comes straight from Dr. Bearden--let's surround him and our kids with some Mashburn pride!
Thank you so much for your help with this!
Please let Keri Cook know if you have any questions!
Read to Me Initiative
We are calling on you all to help our newest readers achieve a lofty goal. Kindergarten students who come to us without a firm foundation in literacy often have difficulty catching up to their peers. To make sure we give them an even playing field, we are asking for you to help them hear 500 books read aloud in 25 days. (Yes-that’s 20 books a day!).
Last Thursday, August 23, we launched a Read to Me initiative to help us meet this goal for each of our “Read to Me” students. Have 10 minutes? Need a break from a stressful day? Come on down to the kindergarten hallway! Each teacher has an RTM center close to their door. Simply pull one or two names, ask for the students and read them a book. There is a book basket with books to read, or you can bring your own. Once you finish, smile a space on the student’s card, and send them back to class.
Please see a more detailed set of directions by clicking this link Below are some pictures so you will know what to look for when you visit.
Flu Shots
The Health Dept. will be here at Mashburn on Monday 9/10 8:45-10:00 am to give flu shots to staff and their families (18 and up) that are interested. They take these insurances: SHBP, Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Coventry, UHC, Medicare/Medicaid. If you do not have one of these insurances, the cost is:
Flu-$25
Pneumonia-$123
Pneumococcal-$205
Tdap (tetanus)- $65
If you are not sure if you need the pneumonia, pneumococcal or tetanus shot, please check with your health care provider.
See Vaccine info sheet link above.
You want to bring your insurance card and ID with you. The front conference room is reserved for this event.
Please make sure you write your names, birthdate and check which shot you are getting on the sign-up sheet (located in the mail room in a yellow folder). Please see this link for information on vaccines that are being offered
Reminders from the Health Dept:
1) Employees must put their birth date on the sign-up sheet. We use them to verify vaccines in Grits especially if they are requesting a vaccine other than the flu.
2) Employees must use the names on their insurance cards. Insurance will not pay if a nickname is used.
3) Employees must bring their insurance cards with them to the scheduled date or they will be required to pay the $25 cash or checks. (no exceptions this year).
4) We only take Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Coventry, Medicare/Medicaid, SHBP, & United Healthcare. No Kaiser. The claims address on the back of the card must have these company names. If it does not, chances are we do not have a contract with them.
1) We will be there for the Vaccine clinic for only 1 hour and 15 mins- they do need to leave on time, to head to the next school.
