Learning Update
Vaccine Clinic: D103 held its second COVID vaccine clinic in December. There were 924 vaccines administered and of that number 554 students ages 5-11 years old received first and second doses.
Masks: State officials are reviewing the metrics and the need to continue wearing masks in school.
Test to Stay: State officials are reviewing the test to stay program with possible changes to lessen the requirement. Since D103 began offering the test, there has been only one positive COVID case as a result of the testing. Vaccinated students do not need to participate in a test to stay or quarantine unless showing symptoms or test positive for COVID.
Vaccines: The data confirms that vaccines work and that 90% of people hospitalized are not vaccinated.
Metrics: There has been a surge of transmission levels across the state, county, and district. The positivity rate is at 5.9% due to the amount of COVID testing with new cases rising to 325 cases. The number should be below 50 cases.
Sprague Heating: The heat was not circulating in parts of the building this week as a result of power outages. A heating pump was damaged and needs to be replaced. A second pump was restored later in the morning and began circulating heat. The district is looking into backup generators for both Sprague and Half Day Schools. Daniel Wright is already equipped with a backup generator.
Other: The Board discussed the issue of a lack of bus drivers. Driver shortages both locally and area wide are dire and it is difficult to secure permanent drivers. The Board asked the administration to continue to look into possible solutions to alleviate the shortage.
Aides: The Board encouraged the administration to publicize more broadly the district’s need for associates and to promote the new pay rate that went into effect at the last Board meeting to help with the aide shortage.
Student Math Survey
Students in grades 4-8 participated in an anonymous math survey regarding their mindset and math activities both in and out of school. The 1,221 student respondents had a very positive overall attitude about math and confirmed that math would be very useful in the future. Questions asked about whether the student enjoyed math to whether the student finished all of their math homework. The district is reviewing the data, comparing our results to data from other schools, and identifying where students may need additional math support.
2022-2023 Calendar
The Board reviewed the 2022-2023 school calendar after a committee made some adjustments. The Board is expected to approve the 2022-2023 calendar in January. The proposed calendar is similar to past calendars in regards to breaks, institute days, and parent/teacher conferences.
Approval of School Fees for the 2022-2023 School Year
The Board approved the school fee rates for the 2022-2023 school year. School fee increases are adjusted annually according to the consumer price index. School fees include materials, supplies, and the use of technology devices.

Brick Fundraiser Update
A new brick legacy display at Daniel Wright is being created by the donations of families who purchased them on behalf of the Learning Fund Foundation. District 103 will install the bricks in front of the school sometime in spring 2022. Families raised $13,400 for the District 103 LFF brick legacy fundraiser with 134 bricks purchased. The funds will help pay for furniture for a Daniel Wright outdoor cafe and for Sprague library bookshelves.
This is the first round of an ongoing brick fundraiser that the LFF established. To donate to the fundraiser and leave your family's legacy in D103, please visit the foundation’s website to learn more.
The Learning Fund Foundation is a group of volunteers who collaborate to bring innovative learning programs and experiences to students across all D103 schools.
