Australian Science Museum Festival
Chemical Chaos is Coming
The science festival at the Sydney museum was a great event that lasted for a whole week. There were several parts of the building dedicated to a certain subject like the expo, and activity areas like the chemical reactions room.
We worked in groups to identify the strength of acids and bases using raw crushed up cabbage.
On pH Levels of
The cabbage juice added to different items would make it change colour,
and show the pH level according to a scale devised for this type of work.
What the pH level are.
pH levels are the scales of acidic or basic substances. The higher the pH level, the more basic the substance is. About 7 or 8 on the scale is the neutral zone where it will be the least harmful to humans. Normally, very basic substances have about a pH level of 14 and very acidic substances have a pH level of 0.
