#TogetherWeNavigate
Good Afternoon DATA Families,
This morning, I was made aware of some graffiti found in our gym, which included a racial slur. The words and symbol used in the graffiti were painful, disrespectful, derogatory, and go against our very core values, including ensuring a welcoming and positive learning environment for all our students. Hate and racism have no place at DATA.
The graffiti was done over the weekend, and we do not believe any member of the DATA community was involved. It was discovered during zero period and removed before the start of our school day. Unfortunately, some students did see it, and many will have heard about it by now.
As soon as we became aware of the graffiti, it was removed, and we began addressing the situation. I will be addressing all of our students today about the absolute importance of working to build a campus culture that celebrates the strength we gain from our diversity, that is inclusive, and that remains free from harassment or discrimination for each and every member of our community.
Throughout our campus, our students and staff represent the best of who we are despite incidents like this, and, as a community, we will rise above it. Please contact me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions and know that we are committed to continuing the work of ensuring that every child and family is welcomed into a safe and respectful school.
Sincerely,
Principal Cervantes
Sinceramente,
Marisa Cervantes
