Principal Ponderings: Self-care
Not just because we are educators, but as humans. We can't pour from empty cups and you are pouring yourself into people everyday. Hundreds of students, multiple colleagues, parents, community members, student-athletes, etc. Then you go home and have to put on a different hat as parent, spouse, care-taker, coach, scout leader, youth group leader, or any other role outside of school. One of my goals this year is to ensure that my family is getting the best of me, not the rest of me. It's a delicate balance for sure.
This week is always draining. Getting back into the grind of the of the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the job are exhausting. Jen Hatmaker had a great post last week about what to do on a Friday night the first week of school. There is great wisdom in it. Practice self-care this weekend so you can start pouring into people all over again next week. Thanks for a great first week.
Administrative Items
- Lunch Duty (6/3-7 and 6/10): Cvengros/Nichols, Blough, Brow
- Lancer Leader of the Week: Principal's Choice
- Late Start: Course
- P2: Please, have students complete the VIA survey prior to next week so they are familiar with their top positive character strengths. Sixth graders and some seventh graders will have to adjust the birth year for students to take it. It may take some students longer than time allotted in Lancer Time. Students that took it last year with same log in info will just have to sign in. Their results are still there from last year, but things change.
- Clarification on Tardies: Students arriving late to P2 first thing without a pass means they were in the building prior to 7:40. Mark them tardy and keep them in class. Students arriving after 7:40 will be filtered through the office (only door open) and will have a pass from Mrs. Pallett.
- Clarification on Attendance: Our handbook reflects board policy for excused absences. Students out for family travel should be directed to the office to get extended absence form and returned prior to their departure (5 days in advance is preferred).
- Students have through tomorrow to request schedule changes.
- Related Arts Teachers: Have conversations with kids about Chromebooks as to bring them or not. Some are more obvious than others, but set that expectation with them.

Two Resources Worth Sharing
We have a great mix of experience at LMS. When we recognize the value that everyone brings to the table we create a more inclusive and collaborative culture. As Joe Sanfelippo reminds, "we're all in this together."
