Principal's Message

Dear Edison Nation,

We are excited to welcome our students back to in-person instruction on Monday, August 9. Our facilities have been prepared to ensure that the highest level of safety for students and staff has been addressed.

Our District will continue to monitor COVID safety recommendations, and should conditions change, we will keep you informed. In alignment with current recommendations, the following guidelines will be implemented for in-person instruction:

  • Students, staff, families and community members will wear masks while indoors (while students or community members are present), regardless of vaccination status

  • Students and staff masking is optional when outdoors, regardless of vaccination status

  • Parents must screen their child daily before coming to school by checking temperature and observing for COVID-like symptoms (see attached Daily Checklist for Families)

  • Student temperatures will not be taken at school

  • Students exhibiting COVID-like symptoms must stay home and families must call the office to report their absence

  • Physical distancing will be maintained, wherever possible

  • Regular hand washing will continue and hand sanitizer will be available for frequent use

  • Daily disinfecting will be conducted

  • Multiple classroom ventilation strategies have been implemented

  • Visitors will be screened upon entering the front office

  • No volunteers will be allowed on campus at this time

  • COVID contact tracing is in place for students and staff

  • Drinking fountains will be opened for use. However, students are encouraged to bring a water bottle from home daily.

Safety guidelines from various agencies will continue to be monitored and changes will be implemented, as necessary. Families will be provided with additional information as it becomes available.

Lastly, as we transition back to being on campus after considerable time away for many of our families I want to thank you in advance for taking a few moments to carefully review the information included here to prepare for our school year. Especially important are the arrival and dismissal procedures and the “10 things you can do to prepare for school opening”. Rest assured, our staff will spend time at the beginning of the school year ensuring that your child knows how to properly wear/care for his/her mask as well as ensuring hand washing procedures are learned.

Once again, I cannot thank you enough for your support as we kick off this school year. We look forward to seeing our kids on Monday, August 9th -- #edisonstrong.

Sincerely,

Mr. Lopez

TK | Kindergarten Orientation -- Monday, Aug 9, 2021

Monday August 9, ONE parent will join their child for a brief activity together on campus. One parent will stay for a brief orientation with their child’s teacher while students are allowed to explore the supervised kinder playground. Parents will exit campus following the orientation and students will continue their school day. We’ve found this structure allows for a smooth transition for nearly all students -- thank you in advance for supporting us in exiting matter of factly, for lack of a better phrase, in spite of a potential tear or two. :)

Please be sure to make arrangements for childcare, for any non school aged siblings, this will be an adult only session for parents.

Virtual Back to School Night - August 18, 2021, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

With our first day of school comes many traditions across all of our Ontario - Montclair (OMSD) campuses – including Back to School NIght (BTSN). The primary intent of Back to School Night is to establish a positive rapport between our teachers and families, communicate learning goals, expectations, and reaffirm our commitment to collaborate with our entire Edison community.

However, with the district’s continued commitment to prioritizing in person instruction and mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in mind, we have made the proactive decision to hold Back to School Night online with families. We feel that this is our wisest and safest course of action at this time given the substantial turnout we are accustomed to having for our large scale family events. We recognize that Back to School holds a special place in the hearts of our students and families. We expect the convenience of attending virtually, and our previous experience in using the Zoom platform will afford increased access for families.

Our Back to School Night will be conducted online this year and families will have an opportunity to visit their children’s teachers in much the same way as we have in the past with two rotations for parents to visit multiple teachers. Parents can expect to receive Zoom invitations from their child’s teachers next week. Starting next Friday, parents may also visit the Parent section of our school website for a listing of all our classroom session links, just click on Parents and select Back to School Night.

Students Presenting Symptoms at Home

In an effort to maintain a healthy school environment and to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we ask that all parents keep their students at home if they are sick using our Daily Checklist for Families. Parents are asked to screen their child for COVID-19 symptoms each morning before they send them to school. This shared responsibility is critical to our ability to keep everyone safe and healthy. In support of this partnership, the District will send out regular reminders to families. Please report your student’s illness with details of all symptoms to our health office at 909-984-5618. Our Health Office will follow up on all students that are at home with COVID-19 symptoms.

What to Expect When Arriving at School

Staff members are assigned to monitor and direct students on campus , ensure adequate physical distancing, and proper face-coverings. All students should walk directly to their walk and talk area until the first bell rings to start our day.

We encourage those able to enter campus independently to do so and say goodbye to families curbside or at the main gate.
