My Trip to Haiti

Dear Lovin Families,

I hope you enjoyed your summer. I am looking forward to seeing all the children very soon. I especially look forward to meeting all of our new Lovin tigers.

This is a quick Blanchette Bulletin to let you know that I am back from my trip to Haiti. It was life-changing......I wish I could have taken all of you along with me on this journey!

As many of you know, for the past couple of years, we have donated books and school supplies to a school in Haiti. This past April, we were visited by the principal of that school and the story was featured in the Gwinnett Daily Post.

I was honored to be invited to Haiti for the official opening of their new library which they named the “Lovin Bibliotheque.” It is difficult for those of us here to imagine, but we were told it was the first library the children and parents had ever seen. Along with first grade teacher Ms. Argilagos, and custodian Mr. Augustinvil (who are both from Haiti), we participated in the official ribbon cutting ceremony and had meaningful conversations with their faculty.

I don’t know how to accurately describe the experience. It allowed me to put faces to the many people we are helping. It also served as a reminder of how fortunate I am to live in this country, to have the educational resources that Gwinnett County Public Schools provides for our students, and to be part of a community that has such an incredibly giving nature. The staff and students of this school wanted me to pass on their sincere thanks, so as they say in Haiti, “Mèsi poutèt ou.”

I am looking so forward to a new school year and all the laughing and learning that will occur each and every day at Lovin.

Most Sincerely,

Janet Blanchette
