Kahla Parents,

I hope that you all had an enjoyable summer break! As the summer comes to a close, I would like to welcome everyone to the start of the 2022-2023 school year! We are excited to start the new school year with all of our Knight students. Our Kahla administrative team and staff have been working diligently to prepare for the first day of school, Monday August 22, 2022. Please read this information thoroughly as it will provide you with answers to questions you may have as we anticipate the start of school.

Dear Parents,

Our school is participating in an important district initiative. It is called Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS).

What is PBIS?

It’s made up of systems, data, and practices all to help schools be more effective learning environments. It’s a way that makes school more predictable, consistent, and positive for all the students and staff.

A key point of PBIS is to support students socially and behaviorally to set them up for success. It encourages students to follow expected behavior by rewarding good behavior seen all while correcting the problem behaviors in a positive way.

What are the outcomes of PBIS?

Decreases distributive behavior & referral while increasing academics & academic achievement. It creates a safe & positive environment for students to learn.

How will Kahla execute this PBIS?

To keep students on the rules in a positive manner, we do the following when teaching academics and behavior:

Constantly teach and refer to our school-wide expectations.
Provide students with more praise than correction.
Talk to students with respect using positive voice tone.
Actively engage everyone in the class during instruction.
Use pre-correcting, prompting, and redirecting as we teach.
Look for the positive first and provide positive, immediate, frequent, and explicit feedback.

CLEAR BACKPACK POLICY

In an effort to improve the safety measures currently in place, CFISD requires all high school and middle school students to use clear backpacks. Students participating in an extracurricular activity are permitted to carry non-transparent bags to store items pertaining to their particular activity (i.e. band, athletics, etc.).

Upon entry into the school, all extracurricular activity bags must be stored in lockers or designated areas. All bags are subject to search. Additionally, the maximum size for non-transparent bags that students in grades 6-12 will be permitted to carry during the school day, such as lunch kits, pencil bags and purses, will be 6” x 9”.

Elementary school students will be allowed to continue using traditional backpacks.

Water Fountains

Water fountains will be operational this year as usual.

Water Bottle Guidelines:

No larger than 24 oz.
Transparent (only water allowed in them during the day)
Must be a plastic bottle that is completely sealed
Clear with no color

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

All CFISD students have been assigned a 1:1 Chromebook, please have him/her bring the device and charging device to school each day.

Support Tickets - Happy Fox

There is a link to HappyFox (student support system) on the webpage for each campus. This link will take the student to my.cfisd.net where they can login. Upon login, they can click on the HappyFox logo to enter the system.

Students will be presented with questions, and based on their answers, other questions will appear as necessary in order to gather the information needed to address the issue with their regarding their request.

Lost Items

If you lose an item (charger or Chromebook) please submit a HappyFox ticket for a replacement. Unauthorized chargers will void our warranty. Please do not purchase chargers
