NOVEMBER 9, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
Hello to our Northpoint Families,
With Daylight Savings Time, it is starting to feel more and more like late fall, early winter. It’s almost time to bust out the winter gear – which I suppose is either good news or sad news based on your interests! A few days ago, I was in a store where I saw a Santa figurine. This Santa was dressed in tropical beach wear, and I immediately thought to myself, “I wish!”
We have a few weeks to go in this first trimester, and it’s fun to see the leaps in learning at this point in the year. I have enjoyed getting into classrooms and seeing students engage in their learning. In all subject areas, our outcomes are to help students learn content knowledge and ways of thinking that will allow them to apply their learning to other areas.
When I get an opportunity to teach, I often share with the children that I want two things to happen. I want them to learn about the content and skills related to the day’s lesson, and I want them to be able to use that knowledge and skills when they are not in school. I let them know we practice at school so they can become independent when they are on their own!
We’ll be hosting Tour and Talk events at Northpoint and our other K-4 schools at the end of the month. We welcome any families with children who will be entering preschool and kindergarten next year to come and visit. We also kick off a series of Tour and Talk opportunities at Spring Lake Park High School for families exploring high school options. Please share Tour and Talk information with anyone interested in our schools and encourage them to sign up and come visit.
Enjoy your kids, and thank you for entrusting us to care for them here at Northpoint!
Judi Kahoun,
Principal
Flu alert
Flu season is here. Along with the rest of Minnesota, Spring Lake Park Schools is experiencing an increase in flu and flu-like illness. Please help keep our community healthy. Continue to practice good hand hygiene and keep your student home when they are sick.
Advance notice: Expect notifications for negative meal account balances
With meals no longer free this school year, families whose student's meal account balance is negative $5 and below will begin receiving weekly notifications. Starting this evening, notifications will be sent by email and text message each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
To find directions on how to add funds to your student's account, visit the nutrition services webpage. For any questions, please reach out to Jane Sweney at JSwene@district16.org or 763-600-5041.
Support during upcoming holidays
It's that time of year when a variety of different holidays are approaching. If you celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas and need some extra support during this upcoming season, there may be programs within our district or local community where we can connect families. Please reach out to the Northpoint office at Northpoint@district16.org for more information.
Vision screening coming soon
The health office will be conducting vision screening in the next few weeks. This year, we are excited to partner with the Spring Lake Park Lions Club. They will be bringing trained volunteers to use a vision spot screener to screen students for potential vision issues. If you do NOT want your child to participate in vision screening, please call the health office by Thursday, December 1.
NP Power Hour
Power Hour kicked off last week at Northpoint! Students were able to enjoy a variety of activities including origami, needle point, nail painting, science classes and much more.
PTO parent volunteers needed
Free Tuesday mornings?! We are looking for volunteers to come and gather in the PTO room each Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. to help complete projects for the teachers/staff of Northpoint! Click here for more information and to sign up.
