THE WARRIOR WEEKLY
JANUARY 16TH, 2016
WARRIORS PLAY IN COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP FOR FIRST TIME IN 22 YEARS
The drought ended this season by a first round defeat of Yorktown, followed by a second round victory over Daleville. These two victories setup a county championship matchup with 3A Delta, which only has two losses at the hands of Hamilton Heights and Muncie Central this season.
From the tip Saturday evening to the final buzzer, our Warriors played tight with the Eagles. Several times throughout the second and third quarter, the Warriors took the lead, before the firepower of the eagles became too much, falling to them by a score of 60-50. Putting 50 points up against Delta is no small feat, as the Eagles are the 13th ranked school in the state in defensive average.
Although our boy's came up short in the title game, there is much to be proud of with the 2016-2017 Warriors at this point. The Warriors are 8-5 after the county tournament, and this is the best record at this point in a season since the 2006-2007 Warriors were 8-2 following a defeat at the hands of Delta in the first round of the county tournament. Of the five losses this season, four of the five have come at the hands of schools classified as 2A and 3A IHSAA schools, including Monroe Central(13-1) and Delta(11-2). While of the eight wins, three have come over larger 2A and 3A classified schools Elwood, Madison Grant, and rival Yorktown. There is much to be proud of with this Warrior team this season, including an impressive run in the count tournament.
The Warriors have ten games left before the IHSAA sectional begins in Richard E. Johnson gymnasium in March. If you haven't been able to see them play, make it a point to get out to Kay Saunders Court and watch our might Warriors!
