Our next unit is Australia. Ask your child next week about the "Land Down Under."
Math
Regular Math: We will learn to solve percent problems and convert measurement units using proportions. INSTEAD OF MATH MAINTENANCE this week... I would like as many students AND parents as possible to attend our math/science exhibition on Thursday night. Students will demonstrate several hands-on activities they have mastered this year.
NO TUTORING THIS WEEK.
Advanced Math -We will continue with ratios, percents and proportions. Students will look at the connection of proportions, tables, equations and graphs, identify the constant of proportionality and understand y=kx.

POW: NO POW this week due to our math/science exhibition night.
Language Arts
This week in ELA, students will review for the mock writing test (to be administered on Wednesday), learn about the subtle nuances of punctuation, and work on their reading and writing contract assignments. Students will get their first progress check for reading and writing this week, which will be graded. Ask your child how he or she is progressing, and check Infinite Campus to see how that progress is reflected in his or her grade.
Science
We will continue the energy unit this week. Students will be doing an activity on geothermal energy.
We will have our summative assessments for the energy unit on the following days:
Thursday Jan. 23rd-performance task
Friday Jan. 24th-unit test
Study the energy unit study guide each night for 10-15 minutes in preparation for these assessments. We will also do review activities in class to prepare for the assessments.
